Well that sure confirms your CPU is running at top speed for absolutely no reason IMHO! This could be related to your version of BIOS that may date back to a time where your CPU was not fully supported because it was not supported in the original BIOS revision. So, is there anyway you can boot into the BIOS and see what revision you are running?

Unfortunately, not at the moment. But I'd certainly be down to update it if that's the issue... can you recommend any good guides that could help me in that department?

Your mobo manual should suffice. Get it here:
    https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards...lpDesk_Manual/

See the section on updating your BIOS:

At this point, I really don't think going through a clean install (again) will do anything for you. Good luck and let us know.

One last question. When did you get your mobo (approximate date?). This might help make a CPU compatibility assessment without going to the BIOS because each BIOS update is dated; therefore, we can determine what the latest possible BIOS might be and proceed from there.

  7. I want to say I got my motherboard January 2015 or so. But I may have updated my BIOS at least once, I don't remember...

OK, your I7-4790k was not supported in the original BIOS and I cannot determine what revision you are running but here is the page where you need to go to get the latest BIOS:

  10. Just thought I'd up date you all...

First I updated the BIOS with no problem, but the issue persisted.

So then I reset the PC again, restored My Docs Folder, slowly added on programs, and I haven't had the issue since.

Let's cross our fingers and hope it stays that way... thank you again for all of your help!

  12. Well, it's back.. and it occurred immediately after I reset my PC. I used MalwareBytes and scanned every single connected drive and found no malware... I have no idea why but I'm always getting 100% CPU usage still... It's really frustrating. :/

Edit: I really think it's a driver or something leaking it. It's so weird. I'm in SafeMode and the 100% CPU usage is persistent.

Hi, high CPU use in Safe Mode with older PCs tends to suggest your PC doesn't actually support Win 10.

However your MBO is still current from a quick look.

If you upgrade a PC thru Windows editions to a point where ACPI drivers aren't fully compatible with your hardware, you can end up with the odd scenario where in normal mode things are ok, but your PC runs hot in Safe Mode. You've updated your BIOS, so I can't think what more to suggest.

Can you post a screenshot of your task manager in Safe Mode?

Someone else may have more ideas...

  14. Do u have music .wav files in any disk?
In windows 8-10 when u have a currupted wav file your cpu usage goes 100percent. Because explorer try to anyluse hdd's metadata to fix the corruption but i can't so it stucks in loop.

  15. Thank you for the information...

To update you all, I thought I had it fixed, but it yet again randomly jumped to 100% CPU usage.

I had a Microsoft tech remote it, try *everything* and I mean *everything* in terms of disabling services.msc items, editing the registry, adjusting startup services, doing repair disk, Windows 10 upgrade, ending tasks that appeared to take up the majority of the usage and more.

This tech was top tier type of support, because it was escalated. When all his options were exhausted, he mentioned updated the BIOS would be the answer.

So I updated the BIOS to the latest version (which took several steps).

Then I did a wipe and reinstall of Windows 10, and I reinstalled my programs.

Everything was fine and dandy until this morning, as OneDrive was syncing files, it shot up to 100%. The only thing I did was change the power settings to "never" for going to sleep and 3 hours until display sleeps.

I have reverted to 1 hour to sleep / 1 hour to display sleeping and it's still at 100% CPU usage...

It doesn't matter how many processes are running, my PC will just randomly pick a few of the most active ones and say it takes up like 80%/90%/ even 100% of my CPU. It's so frustrating.

Any help at this point would be a Godsend. *Sad
