Information Microsoft first made investments that improve cmd, PowerShell, and many other command-line tools and developer scenarios. Second Microsoft decided to grow their command line family by adding real, native Bash and with it support for Linux command-line tools which run directly on Windows in an environment that behaves like Linux!

Starting with Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14316, you can natively run Bash in Windows. BASH is a popular text-based shell and command-language. It is the default shell included within Ubuntu and other Linux distro’s, and in OSX. Users type commands into a shell to execute scripts and/or run commands and tools to accomplish many tasks.

You can now run Bash scripts, Linux command-line tools like sed, awk, grep, and you can even try Linux-first tools like Ruby, Git, Python, etc. directly on Windows. You can also access your Windows filesystem from within Bash allowing you to work on the same set of files using your preferred Windows tools or Linux command-line tools.

For more details about Bash, see:
This tutorial will show you how to add or remove a Open Bash window here context menu for all users in Windows 10.

Note While you must be signed in as an administrator to add or remove the "Open Bash window here" context menu, all users can use the context menu.

The "Open Bash window here" context menu item requires that Bash on Unbunto is enabled to work. Bash on Unbunto is not enabled by default in Windows 10.

The "Open Bash window here" context menu will be available when you right click or shift + right click on a folder or drive, and when you right click or shift + right click on the background of a folder, drive, library, or desktop.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

    Custom context menu entries

So, just throwing this out there, in case somone knows.

I have added a custom context menu entry for the program rightload, since by default the menu is broken in vistax64.

It works pefect with single files, but when I select mutiple files and try to open, I get mutiple instances of the program (which makes sense), here is my entry:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Rightload\Rightload.exe --server=1 --autostart %1

So the %1 passes the filename to the program, and when I select multiple files it is just opening multiple instances of rightload each with a different file.

What I'd like to do is be able to pass a list of the files selected to the program. Since I know it is capable of uploading multiple files from the context menu, all in one instance.

So, is there something I can pass besides %1 that will do this? I have looked around and can't seem to find an answer anywhere... *Frown Open Bash window here context menu - Add in Windows 10 :(

    Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

    • Launch the Store from your Start menu.
    • Click the user icon next to the search box.
    • Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
    • Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
    • When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”
