Windows 10: Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14371 for PC

If you activate your vm (if it does work), is it possible that your physical machine will get deactivated due to digital license transfer?

 

Well I have fallen at first hurdle as something really odd is happening. I have installed this on my PC and licence is activated. I clean installed 10586 using an MSA. This activated fine with a digital licence (have 8.1 oem in bios), and then upgraded to latest insider build 14371.

However, no mention of a digital licence (better term), or any option in menu to "add an account".

Now I am confused! Any ideas?

Re - vm question, I assume I could simply transfer back again, but I cannot get that far.

 

I think you are OK, no issues.

MS has clearly removed / stopped using the words digital entitlement or as in last three builds digital activation.

All my physical and virtual activated machines told until 14352 that Windows was activated with digital entitlement, then all three 1436X builds that it was activated through digital activation, now all 14371 machines put it simple and tell Windows is activated:

 

Ah that is good to know. But why then do I not see the screen (see text in bold rectangle) as below?

EDIT: Just rebooted a couple of times and now the add option is available.

EDIT 2: So adding an account just changed local account to a MS account, and still no message. So I cannot tell if my account is linked or not *Confused

 

Another thought occurred to me re. the new activation. As redstone presumably comes out when free period is finished, is it clever enough to handle earlier digital licences as you will not be able add it during free period?

 

When I boot into Build 14371, I get the "How do you Want to Open This" question. I click on the Snippet icon and the notification disappears.

Not a big problem, but I know it shouldn't happen, so it's a bother to me. Especially since I can't get a snippet of it.

 

Well this is a bummer. For the first time, I am not seeing anything for 14371. I am presently on 14367, fast ring etc. Just received a Defender update without issue. Have been trying since yesterday afternoon...no joy :-(

 

Keep trying. I always get a Defender update before I can get the new build... Just keep hitting that 'check for updates' button! *Party

 

I do as well. First defender gets updated and then the new build comes down.

 

Hyper-V on two totally different machines gave a strange error message after clean installing 14371: "Hyper-V could not start virtual machine "XXX" because hypervisor is not running"

Long time since I've seen this error. If you geeks get it and you know virtualization is enabled in BIOS / UEFI settings, open an elevated Command Prompt, give this command and restart, regardless if your services.msc shows it's already running and set to start automatically:

After the restart Hyper-V virtual machines should run just fine.
