System restore is still off by default. What a stupid decision it was to do this and how simple it would be to fix it.
If you check the bug reports there are many, many requests to fix this. Come on MS, fix it.

I fully agree with Ztrucker about the new "Disabled" setting for System Restore. How many disgruntled and P@$#^@!@ O## users will have to be worked with, placated and rewarded with "stuff" before this default changes back to the "Enabled" as it has been FOREVER in the past.
It sure would be nice if someone would explain the logic about this change. *Mad

 

I got used to it and developed a routine to change all the settings to my liking. There are other custom settings that change to new default. Disk defragmentation schedule for instance. Desktop icons get arrows again at every upgrade, speaker (mixer) goes back to new style and Take ownership option disappears but at least Windows photo viewer stays put and many default programs for opening some kinds of files do not change.

Build upgrade deletes all your restore points. So it goes back to default settings.

 

Fastest download & install for me of any builds thus far.

 

What I'm saying (as well as a bunch of other people) is that the Default should NOT be Disabled, but Enabled so that someone might be able to save his/her system in case of a catastrophic mess up!*Confused

I really don't care if all of the previous restore points get deleted, as long as the setting remains at ENABLED!

 

You'll have to convince MS, the rest of us want to keep our settings too.

 

I have UK & US keyboards (input languages) set, as well as Finnish, Swedish, German and French. Almost after every restart / sign-in, some input languages are missing although still shown in language settings. To get them back I have to remove them and add them again.

An inconvenience rather than an issue but yet something I would not like to see.

Yeah, Robot, but how many plain jane users will know to turn on System Restore? That, to me is the most glaring problem with having it turned off by default.

 

Presumably Insiders are supposed to be savvy enough to know what to do. Hopefully the upgrade of production systems to the Anniversary Update will either leave the Restore settings alone, or come with a notice that it needs to be turned on if desired, with instructions...

 

Well, Insiders here at TF will know what to do, but there are a whole lot more Insiders than us. *Smile I have a friend who jumps onto anything free when he should just stay with what he knows. He wouldn't have a clue about Restore being on or off!

 

Just all Insiders like us because we are the only ones who get regular build updates/upgrades. We should all be used to it by now. If you are getting the new build, it should be automatic to you that you will have to turn that back on when you are done. It's not that really hard to do it. Some people may not be actually using that feature.
