Windows 10: Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Fast Build 16294 for PC

Really? a branch that is just beginning and you declare it "dead" just because Microsoft has taken a little more than a week to release a build for that branch? several times have been two or three weeks without Microsoft releasing a build and yet people do not declare that branch "dead" only for that, what happens if today or tomorrow Microsoft releases a new build for Skip Ahead?

 

Can't speak to your other issues, but the last one is probably because you chose the option to use your sign-in info to complete the update...under your Account>Sign-in Options. I'm not on Insider right now, so I can't post a screenshot....maybe someone else can.

 

Even that build apparently has anything new that name implies, it's even behind normal fast builds !! It's more like Skip Back. MS could provide at least some hints about eventual newer features and give us some previews of them, if nothing else at least to peek some interest into it. If none, it's at leas o little bit dead. Presumably it's a start to Rs4 before October 17th. after which it will be actual anyway if insider builds are to be continued at all. So yes, it looks like to be on death bed anyway.
Couldn't really blame them, all resources are tied up in Rs3 finalization but at least a part would be in future development as it does take long time.

The insider team said last night that skip ahead was experimental and is subject to change for the spring release. No details on what that might be yet.

 

That is your opinion and is respectable but I disagree, I made this comment in another thread about that:

 

Update was smooth and fast (30ish minutes).
Installation slowed down a bit at 80%, disabled Windows defender and it jumps to 90s...

My thoughts exactly - I delete the recovery partition and use Acronis to keep an up-to-date disk image.

I asked for the option to make/not make windows.old folder long ago - no luck
Also asked for the option to have "Select all" as an option when using disk cleanup - no luck

I can understand MS's reluctance to do either of these things - no all Windows users are as smart as we be.

 

Thanks for the reminder, yes, that explains that part. I'm claiming a "senior moment."*Doh

 

But they will continue releasing the "prerelease" builds of RS4 in Skip Ahead until October 17, then (as we all know) the Fast ring and Skip Ahead will merge and everything will return to normal, Fast ring, Release Preview and Slow and I repeat, as has always happened with these first builds, we should not expect new features for now.

Anyway, when I woke up and logged in this morning, I had the new lock screen. Gave it my PW and got HI! We've got some updates . . . Everything seems to have gone smoothly while I finished my night's sleep. *Smile

 

Yeppers, and in my infinite wisdom (NOT), I have decided that it's more important for me to stick with the regular Fast Ring and get to RS4 after RS3 is RTM'd. *Smile
