Windows 10: Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Fast+Skip Build 17046 for PC

Didn't realize that one should run the "update.cmd" when a new build comes out. I DID run it, and the "C" version of the file I mentioned in my earlier post WAS there. Downloading now to see if it works. Thanks for the tip/reminder.

So I got lucky, my hosts BSOD didn't screw up my upgrade in the VM.
In english: I didn't have to start over*Party
And thankfully, the new thing where Windows boots up, and you are where you left off, when a program was not closed out before restart or shutdown, opened up everything and just kept on chuggin'.

Finally got to the point of upgrading.

 

96 miutes from start to desktop, - also quickest for me.

 

UUP-Dump DOES work, after one runs the "update" command.

Ran update.cmd, downloaded the 17046 files, made an ISO with UUPtoISO, and installed it in a virtual machine.

OK, it took longer this time because of my problems with BIOS. Made ISO to as well as bootable USB, just in case. Not going to actually update until tomorrow because of those BIOS pr0blems. For every restart, I have to do cold boot several times until it succeeds.

 

I wonder if the Macrium Guardian issue that @Kari identified is now fixed. This seems to be related

• We fixed an issue resulting in Insiders with certain third party antiviruses and OneDrive Files on Demand enabled seeing an error in recent builds citing “OneDrive cannot connect to Windows”.

 

I could not see the update at all until I ran update.cmd.

I think I will try just and merge both .cmd files together.

Edit: just merged two .cmd files together and deleted the pause and exit commands at end of update commands, and ran it and it worked fine. So I will never forget to do update now!

You are referring to "OneDrive can't connect to Windows" issue when Macrium Reflect CBT feature is enabled. This was found by Dick, not me (see this post), I only confirmed his found and studied it further.

In addition, the issue might have been resolved for third party AV users but for Macrium users it remains unresolved. This still applies:

Just wondered if the CBT/MIG issue was an inadvertent side effect of it.

Does MIG work now?

Yes, Macrium Image Guardian is OK and does not cause any issues. It's just CBT (Changed Block Tracker) in build 17035 or later that's causing an issue.

Fast fix is to modify Reflect installation, disable CBT and reboot.
