It is easier than it looks. Tutorial leads you through the steps. If you cannot handle this, then really joining fast ring is not for you. It is essential to pick up iso creating skills as Fast/Skip builds can be quite flakey at times.

The Slow Ring brings out full ready to go isos.

Can you define 'flakey'? Do mean that for some reason the install fails then you use the ISO to try again??

Being on the fast ring will get you bugs (sometimes show-stopper) bugs from time to time. If you use your PC for work purposes or aren't familiar with how to recover from one of these bugs, I would suggest slow ring or even the last full release of Windows.

  6. I have used Acronis many times to 'get me out of a stick'. I have strict daily full image backups over a week on several drives and am fully able to restore my system in 4 minutes!!

So my question again, please. Why do I need an ISO and how are the updates 'flakey'? I'm simply curious so that I make my life easier with the Skip Aheads, which are great. Thank you.

  7. Timeline still does NOT sync between devices in this build. I am working on several Excel SS's for work. And when I leave my desktop to try to pull them up on my SP4, Timeline shows them, but when I try to pull them up it gives me an error message saying that doc is not in the folder, since I have different folders on the two devices. But Timeline is NOT supposed to look for these docs in a particular folder, but in the cloud of my MSA. So I am confused why this would be a problem?

Skip-ahead updates can be flakey because you're getting the bleeding edge new features from MS while they are testing them. The idea of insiders is to help MS fix any issues they may have.

  9. Thank you..that's what I'm doing via the Feedback Hub. Could you just explain how an ISO can be used to improve the install?

As i understand it, from the link provided, the ISO is compiled from the download from the Windows Update, before you Restart the PC to complete the new build. So, in what scenarios would you use the ISO? If the update fails ?

The ISO is typically used if you want to do a clean formatted install. Usually for Insider releases you can use use Windows update, unless it develops a problem where the only solution is to format.

Having trouble keeping up this week. There've been so many builds I'm starting to lose track. Sigh.
