I can vividly remember seeing 100+ updates on Win 7 THEN would pop up the service pack and then MORE updates. And if any of these updates failed, you were hosed.

 

Been a long time, but I think the advice back then was to do chunks of updates at a time. That's when we could actually choose which ones with a simple click.

 

Well, a good bit of your speed is now relegated to your download speed. Mine still took far longer to DL than it should have - I have a 330Mbps pipe (that routinely shows well above 360) meaning I should be able to sustain, a tthe bare minimum, 25 MB/s - which, for 5 GB worth of files, means it should take around 200 seconds. Let's say for the sake of argument that we double that - 400 seconds to download (6 minutes and change). then it still takes a good while performing the initial installing step - far too long, IMO.

XP was murder. Plus the need to routinely disable AV software....

I always installed the SP first before attempting to even connect to Windows Update. Made life a heck of a lot easier.

I did SP first (with XP, I just installed SP2 over clean XP install until I finally built an XP install disc with SP2 integrated, and with Win7, I just downloaded the updated 7 install disc with SP1 integrated when I still had my TechNet account active).

Uh, I live in GA - I'm as east coast as you can get - and I am already on it.

 

Me, too, Marty. Maryland is practically in the Atlantic Ocean! I got it around 1:15. Rural VA should have it. Then, there's always plan "B".......

 

I set update to slow. Updated. Changed back to skip ahead. Downloading now.

 

Well, worked today, just got home and skippy download in progress.

- it hiccupped over my Trixx overclock - re-installed 18.3.4
- got both cards up and running in crossfire now..

- testing commences..*Nerd

 

Installed quickly and without problems. More than I can say for 17133

Finished installing without any issue. I just noticed that as I increased the c: drive disk space to 100 GB and had lots of disk space available the size of windows.old increased to 40GB. In general the size of windows.old is proportional to the amount of disk space available. Well, I don't have the time or inclination to look into this but it is curious.

 

Once again I came in to a login screen, all on it's own. Love it!
