Windows 10: Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Slow Build 17074.1002 - Jan. 11

I'll be. I took a nap right about the time it was released. Then on the phone.

For some reason I don't get anything.

 

2.00 am here. 43% installed.

 

Building ISO right now. Install went OK with a delay of about 12 minutes between 62 and 68% with 95%+ disk activity. Now for the restart.


WEK

The setup/reboot process was quite fast, especially 0 to 42% when the graphics were loaded. Now running 17074 and will continue to play with it a little tonight.

Another thing...Sets are now available for the first time.

 

I know quite a few of you fellow geeks use UUP Dump Miniserver to get upgrade files. For those not familiar with it, I just posted this in Ten Forums Video thread:

 

All finished, about 1:15. Now time to explore.

 

Just got the BIOS/firmware upgrade to counter Specter/Branch Target Injection installed on my Dell Venue Pro 7130. Installing the new OS now. That's what we call fun here at Chez Tittel on a Thursday nite. *chuckle



Wish me luck! I'll report back if anything interesting or untoward happens.

[Note added 1:15 later] It took about an hour to get into the actual OS install phase post-first-reboot. Then I had something new happen. The PC went dead black and wouldn't reboot or do anything. I popped the battery out and plugged in the charger and held down the start button for 5 seconds and it rebooted, but not before I wondered if I'd traded the Dell for a brick. I'm 52% through the whirling balls portion of the OS install and still hoping for a positive conclusion!
[Note added 1:33 later] Booting into OS right now final conclusion successful. Three more odd things showed up later during install:
1. After I wrote the last note I looked back at the PC and progress jumped backward to 45%.
2. Screen was very dim from 52% until next reboot in the high 50s after which it showed 75% complete upon restarting.
3. Very long Welcome with circling balls after I performed my initial "first login" to the new OS. Odd...

 

And nothing was solved regarding Logitech Webcams and audio cards. Still not working.

 

@JackFoley Well that's disappointing. I'd check myself, but this build boots into a black screen with mouse cursor for me after I sign in, so I guess I'm rolling back.

 

Hmm. I'm not getting anything coming down the pipe. Performed a disk clean, a C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download, reboot, and tried a WU after each with no success. This is a first for me.

Does a WU reset wipe the Insider skip ahead setting? I don't remember.

Never mind. Coming down the shoot, not the pipe. *Biggrin

Never was so glad to see an update in my life! *Smile

 

I'm on a AMD Athlon 64 x2 so i guess I'm not gonna get this build.
Maybe next week. *Sad

 

No problems installing 17074 on my desktop, but it failed (froze and had to hard restart) on my laptop on final restart and it reverted back to previous 17063 build.

 

ISO built. Rebooting .... Now

 

Basically the same system, mine completed without issue (so far)*burger

Why would that matter?

 

The Spectre/Meltdown patch makes these systems unable to boot.

That's interesting.
I'm gonna make a backup and try it then.
