Windows 10: Annoying boot issue after upgrade to Windows 10 version 1511

I just upgraded my computer from the original Windows 10 to version 1511 today. I have an ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0. When Windows boots up, it used to be the ASUS logo and the dots spinning at the bottom would work correctly, like the screen would fade, then the screen would go to the login screen after 10 seconds of waiting. Between that, I would have a black screen before it went to the login screen, as it should.

Now, the problem I'm having after the update, is while the Asus logo and dots are up, the dots freeze up, the screen blinks while initializing, and then after that, the ASUS logo and spinning dots reappear, but the dots spin like they are erratic and fuzzy for about 20 seconds, goes to a black screen for 2 seconds, then brings up the login screen. It almost seems like the system still thinks its in setup mode, but booting normally to desktop, but takes 2 to 3 minutes to boot now, instead of 16 seconds like the original version.

I also did a clean install and have the same result, and installed on a separate computer that has and old legacy bios, and the same thing happens.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem with the update? Is it a glitch? Any Windows updates to correct this issue.

• What is the make and model of your computer?
• Are you unable to upgrade to Windows 10 version 1511 or are you unable to boot the computer to desktop after upgrading to Windows 10 version 1511?
• Do you get any error message?

when i install windows update 1511 windows 10 pro after booting install files normally but when installing drivers my computer returns to previous version of windows.

i have the version windows 10 pro 10240 upgrading in july from windows 7

 

Hi Imaneke, It would be good to have some more infos about the Specs of your System; BIOS and drivers are updated?

4GB Gskill Ripjaws 1333 mhz DDR3
ASUS DVD writer
320 gb SATA WD hard drive
600W power supply.

BIOS revision is 2501, latest by ASUS.
Geforce drivers are at the latest drivers available

 

And your clean installation was made deleting all partitions of the C unite and then creating NEW? and also is your HD making noise like it works hardly?

 

Hi, you're far from being the only one with this experience- I'm only going to hint that if you search this site for (e.g.) 10586 slow login, 10586 slow boot, 10586 slow startup etc you will find a lot of threads.

I've had a quick look, and nothing obvious stands out, I'm afraid. As it fortunately didn't happen to me, I'll leave it to someone who's been thru this. Good luck!

 

Yes and I have done this install on two separate hard drives. Same result. If I can't get this resolved I'll go back to the previous build. I'm wondering if it is bad install media. It took me 5 times downloading it from the creation tool to get a working ISO image.

 

Dalchina, that is great that you aren't experiencing the same issue. I've been a computer tech for 11 years, and this is by far my worst experience with any version of Windows. Was hoping someone else had a fix, or if its a Microsoft problem. I just done a Google search and the issues are widespread. This is ridiculous that they keep releasing an OS without proper testing.

Have you checked the ASUS forum?
Have you tried disabling fast startup?
It would also be worth comparing booting to safe mode.

You may get useful info from the event viewer: Event IDs 100 reflect boot performance.

Sometimes Windows 10 doesn't install an appropriate graphics driver- check, some people need to downgrade. Clearly there's no evidence for this specifically. It took some hours before I received my Nvidia driver on my first upgrade.

(We're the continuous test bed for MS now.. proper regression testing and software ergonomics are clearly obsolete!)

 

This happens on normal startup only. Fast startup worked most of the time. According to ASUS, my PC is Windows 10 ready.

ASUS says since my version of Windows is retail version, I must contact microsoft for support.

Just tested on 2 more machines, one Intel and one AMD. The install fails on the AMD machine, while the Intel machine is doing the same thing as mine.

Yes I understand that we test Windows for Microsoft, but its bad when they make major changes and not make sure it works properly before deploying it to customers. This will turn users away from Microsoft.

 

None of those issues above match my problem. Maybe I should upload a video to YouTube of the issue and put a link here.

 

Just a thought.. presumably you're using the 10586 post November upgrade to install Win 10. Some people reported problems after installing that.

If you could get the previous version (10240) it might be interesting to compare.

Otherwise you need someone who's solved exactly your issue, or an analysis of your boot sequence. I'd assume you are familiar with such tools..

Do you get the W 10 boot logo showing twice after a 1-2 secs black screen and the spinning circle somewhat laggy?? If yes, nothing you can do so far, until MS releases a fix. This started after 10586.xx build.
I'm seeing this on 2 Sony laptops.

Yes that is the issue Vaio. Good thing I'm not the only one.

I'm back to 10240 now. No issues. I'll wait on 10586
