    C:\WINDOWS\SysNative\wecutil.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\SysWoW64\wecutil.exe

Funny thing, the first folder doesn't even exist at all. Dropped the file to virustotal. 0/56 detections.

  2. Windows Defender been stuck for hours removing Adware & Trojan

I'm pretty confident they are false positives, especially since Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner found nothing.

    HiL

    Already fixed, apparently:

    FP - wecutil.exe - Malwarebytes AdwCleaner - Malwarebytes Forums

    MM

P.S. For evaluation and intervention by the AdwCleaner developers, it's advisable to report possible F/Ps in the AdwCleaner forum.

Nothing is fixed, there's no change in ADW Cleaner, that's just damage control !!! I'm dropping it until next version which haven't been released since Malwarebytes took over.

    Hey. MM.

Thank you for the heads up. I have written down that URL for reporting False Positives. Next time I will do that instead of being a lazy *******. *Cool

    Best regards.

PS - In the interim, I am doing the same as CountMike. I will take AdwCleaner logs with a big pinch of salt.

  7. Hi:

For the record, AFAIK AdwCleaner has always been considered a specialized tool intended primarily for use with expert guidance (not a routine DIY tool for everyday use by regular computer users).
Indeed that is how it is listed at the Malwarebytes home page.
And, like all such tools, false positives are always possible, as a trade-off with robust detection.
There has been a long-standing FP thread at bleeping for several years long predating the purchase by Malwarebytes.

Having said all that, I'm sure the devs are committed to improving the product.
As with any software application, the optimal place to report possible bugs or FPs would be the vendor's own product forum.
The devs monitor that board, but I can't be sure they monitor here or the huge number of other computer help fora.

And having said all that, it's certainly up to you whether or not to use the tool.
I'm not here as either a fan or a naysayer.

    Cheers,
    MM

I cant see the need to run it all the time unless one of your virus/malware programs pick something up and you want to dig further.

Indeed. I use it for removing browsers infections prior to reformat PCs I got for service.

  11. Hi:

I would think that most of the junk that AdwCleaner targets would be removed by the reformatting and Windows reinstall?
In other words, if you're going to reformat anyway, I'm not sure AdwCleaner would be needed?

    <just sayin'>

I make Macrium Reflect full system backup at least twice a month so I like it to be as clean as possible. As I can keep only last two backups + first one made they have to be squeaky clean. Before each backup I comb it with several tools and when one of them throws an obvious error I can't trust it any more.
Keep getting answers "Sorry, Please try again" on their forum. No other answers.
Anyway, I think I'm on to something. Those entries may be just temporary ones originating on internet. In the registry they don't exist but registry may also be in the memory or at least part of it so temporary entries may reside only there but not in written form.
Don't know how to explain it otherwise. Found entries, delete entries and than found again but some times different.

Some people are very fond of Google Chrome. That way I can import its current configuration without added infections.

  14. In the worst case scenario, sync will take care of it, except settings for some extensions would have to be redone.

Any tips on browser/PUP removal tools? I am pretty sure, that Adwcleaner will merge with Junkware Removal Tool pretty soon. There is no reason for them to run 2 separate tools, which do the same.

I know about this one, which seem reliable, I just need something else to recommend.
