Windows 10: Another poor soul stuck on Win10 update 1703, and it is driving me crazy! Please help..

System: Windows 10 Professional version 1703 running on a Dell i7.

Almost every day for the last year, Windows 1703 has been trying to do a major update. Until mid-November, 2018, it was trying to install 1709. Since that time, it has been trying to install 1803. Most days, it first downloads a new copy of the installation files. And a re-installation is ALWAYS waiting in the wings... Each time, Windows gets partway through the re-install, craps out for unknown reasons, and reverts to 1703, which was running OK before the attempted re-install and is still running OK after the failed reinstall. What is maddening is that just as soon as the reinstall fails and the computer boots back up into 1703, it immediately tells me that there is an important update waiting. I can't even reboot or shutdown my computer without triggering another re-install.

Error codes: Windows occasionally gives an error code after a failed update. Two times, a good while back, I saw Error 0xc190010a. More recently, this year, I have seen Error 0x80070652 three times. There are hundreds of references to these error codes on the net, mostly showing the same tasks, and they don't give any improvement.

I have tried many things with no joy.

"SFC /scannow" reveals no bad system files

"Windows Update troubleshooter" runs successfully and ends up saying that I have a pending update requiring a reboot. If I try rebooting, it tries and fails the upgrade, just like every other time I have rebooted, and leaves me in the same situation.

Renaming the Software Distribution folder and catroot2 folder does nothing except force (another) download.

I don't see the page right now, but I also ran the DISM program with two sets of parameters

Downloading the whole update in one file and running it from a USB stick... no joy.

Looking at the Windows Update History, there are no pending updates except "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803" over and over.


I just don't know where to start... Any help gratefully accepted.

• Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
- Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

Win10: Windows update is stuck at never ending loop ? ( Last Win10 updates in 2017 ). Can't update the laptop. Genuine Win10 on a HP 2015 17.3" laptop that originally had Win8. ( CPU:AMD A9, GPU:Radeon R5 ).

If I download this below file does it manually install the latest updates of Win10 (=2018 April Update) without losing any files currently on the machine ? ( Mainly paid Office 2013 )
