    Anti-virus freezes email clients

I recently posted a question about my email clients not making connections. (Windows Live Mail and others).
Email connection question Solved - Windows 10 Forums

After a long chat with a Microsoft agent the problem was solved and I happily marked the post Solved. So today my email was working ok. But just recently I got a warning from Avast that it was turned off and I was unprotected. I recalled that the MS agent turned it off while she was working on my PC. Then she and I forgot to turn it on again. I reactivated it and, sure enough, email access was turned off.

A Google search produced Is Avast blocking your email? Here's the fix. | Warrior Forum - The #1 Digital Marketing Forum & Marketplace. The cure involved removing server ports from the settings, which was not difficult. Now the mail is flowing, although connection time is slow.

    Gmail error code 007

Is this with webmail or an email client?

If client does your anti virus have an email scanner which scans as it downloads? If so try disabling it.

If browser try a different one or try to clear out Chrome's cache.

    Hi.
It appears it could be a result of "leftovers" from upgrading Avast; see post here:
    My mail.com email accounts fail

A clean install of Avast, using Avast Clear in safe mode, should resolve it, Or, you can look for the SSL/old, leftover mail settings others found, per the thread above.

You do realise WLM support ended in the beginning of this year?

Yeah, WLM is history, as is XP. But I like it and will continue to use it. Other clients (Outlook, Outlook Express, Opera mail, eM Client, . . .) were also affected. Oddly, Mailbird continued to work. If anything goes wrong with Avast I will try your suggestion. Actually, OE is my old favorite and works great. But the available version lacks a help file.
