Windows 10: Anticipation of 9 compared to 8

Discus and support Anticipation of 9 compared to 8 in Windows 10 Support to solve the problem; I was rather upset they didn't have an initial how-to interactive guide in the RTM build that showed the user how to ACTUALLY use Windows 8's new UI.... IMO, W8 problems were caused by:
    • MS' inexplicable inability to explain how any of their products work (Sinofsky's heat map blog demonstrated this conclusively).
    • The fact that MS derided anyone who didn't like the new paradigm (including existing customers)
    • The erroneous assumptions that EVERYONE:
      • Was using touchscreen equipped iDevices
      • Wanted to use touchscreen equipped devices
This led to the inevitable conclusion; MS was planning to force everyone to use Metro Apps, so that they'd get to harvest their 30% App tax.

It would have been avoided if MS had just left the Start Menu code in W8CP (and onwards) and given users an easy to use setting (like in W8.1)

People still would have bitched about Aero, Metro "bloat" and WMC though.

If they have any sense whatsoever, both camps will be jumping for joy.

    Lets all hope for that....*Thumbs

Yes, that would make the best business sense. If true, at least we know the desktop remains and your camp gets more of them. *Smile

It will probably be the most flexible and configurable OS to date.

I hope that it looks better than 8 and you don't have to use all kind of tweaks to make it usable.

  11. Windows 98 was the most customisable version of Windows that I remember using.
Each subsequent version removed various customising options.

  12. That's more opinion than fact. The heat maps showed which area the screen is most quickly moused over than the start menu. It's easier to move around a large screen full of tiles versus a narrow menu that doesn't expand out on larger monitors.

Microsoft never scolded anyone about anything.

They never assumed EVERYONE was on touch devices, why would they even bother improving multimonitor support if that were the case? And if they wanted a 30% app tax, they would have done a better job in doing so from the very beginning. The overwhelming majority of Windows apps are free. The only thing they'd get anything from the Store are games.

There was no start menu code in the CP nor DP.

There was entire thread (on W8 Forums) about what Reller said.

    100% Wrong (about W8DP).

I used the simple Registry hack (one value) to restore the Start Menu in W8DP.
