I recently performed a System Restore after a driver update put Windows 10 into a perpetual BSOD. After the restoration and I was able to return to Windows again, I noticed that both Chrome and Opera browsers stopped working. There is a previous thread about this that was never resolved. I have already tried each solution that was recommend in this thread:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/all/antimalware-service-executable-is-blocking-access/9e7c8639-ed28-4023-b418-3d9f2b1bfadeI'd really like to add my comments to that discussion but the thread is locked. Possible minor bug - Update with both Opera 2x & Google Chrome installed

Strange bug: Running the previous-older version of GPU-Z on Windows 7, 64-bit, SP1 and trying to update GPU-Z. Have Opera 23/24 installed as a 2ndary web browser, and Google Chrome installed as default/main web browser.
    Steps that work fine:
    1) Run GPU-Z whatever version.
    2) Open About.
    3) Click the links.
Result: Links open correctly in default browser - Google Chrome.

    Steps to reproduce bug:
    1) Run GPU-Z, version before latest.
    2) Try to check for updates.
    3) GPU-Z says an update is available.
    4) Tell it to show the update.
Result: Link opens incorrectly in Opera 23/24, instead of default Google Chrome web browser.
Expected: Open in Google Chrome instead.

Note: Opera 23/24 uses the same core as Google Chrome.

Please check and fix, if necessary.

  3. Antimalware Service Executable is blocking access to any browsers except for Edge

When I try to open Chrome or Opera it will instantly close, and Antimalware Service Executable will jump in CPU usage. I've put Chrome in as an exception for Microsoft Defender. I've restored Firewall defaults. Controlled folder access is off. The problem arose when I logged into Microsoft Store for the first time. I've turned off real time protection, still nothing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome.

Google Chrome Overtakes Mozilla Firefox in Browser Market-share: StatCounter

That's why i started using chrome a while ago, i know there is always an extension to do something in Firefox, but at the end of the day i prefer it if the browser just happens to include these features.

There are other things that pushed me to chrome as well
    • Firefox 4-6 were full of bugs
    • The add-ons have to be updated manually in firefox
    • Google chrome will synchronise every single setting in the browser including the add-ons i have across all of my computers without a single add-on needed (to do the synchronisation of course, i still use them for other things)
    • Chrome works faster for me
    • Chrome has that brilliant start page
    • I could go on all day, there aren't any massive things Firefox is missing, it's all the small things it's missing that add up and make Google chrome better.
