Windows 10: Antimalware Service Executable running rampant [Windows 10 Home]

I've spent the last few hours going through page after page of supposed solutions to stopping Windows Defender, more specifically this task, from running. None have worked. Even with Windows Defender supposedly being disabled, Antimalware Service Executable is devouring my CPU and Disk usage on seemingly nothing. No scans are running and it shouldn't be tasked with doing anything regardless, especially considering I use Avast as my antivirus, not Windows Defender.


A few notes:

-Windows Defender has all of its settings turned off, so it's disabled.

-I've gone into the whole deal of not allowing it to scan again as well. The whole "DisableAntiSpyware" edit didn't help.

-I can't use secpol or gpedit solutions because apparently they aren't available to Windows 10 Home. (Kinda feels like my own operating system is holding my laptop hostage, not going to lie, as salty as I may be.)


I really hope someone here had a solution which isn't the same as these sites have reposted over and over again. Because I just can't use my laptop in this state.

I am still having the problem even with the latest prerelease build. The Antimalware Service Executable process is often running and taking a lot of CPU, disk and memory. The same The Antimalware Service Executable -> Windows Defender Service ...
Too often the PC (an I7 one, 8 GB EliteBook HP) is stuck and even the response of a keyboard entry is very slow!!

Any suggestions?
