Any Serious Issues After Upgrading from 8.1 to 10?

Everything is rocking along fine with my 8.1 Pro laptop. I haven't installed a lot of apps, just OneNote and Office 365 and a VPN tool.
Should I go ahead and upgrade to 10 Pro? Some of the threads I read on this forum scare me. Any advice based on your upgrade experience? Thanks, John

    :)

    Thnaks for your reply.

i have tried a clean boot and the Windows Update Troubleshooter, but it made no difference. Bug is still there.

i have also tried yesterdays Windows update and Intels beta driver 4530 and the bug is still there.

Keep in mind, people with issues tend to post and reflect a small fraction of the total marketplace. Just make sure that all your drivers up to date and check how many are compatible with Windows 10. Uninstall your virus programs before upgrading just to be safe. Also use disk imaging programs to make an image of your 8.1 system. The rollback from Windows 10 is not necessarily reliable. Once you have done an upgrade, and then consider a clean install, especially since you have not installed too many apps.

I have upgraded a laptop (with touch screen) and two desktops. The only problems I had were not Microsoft's fault; I use my desktop for my recording studio and Roland was slow to update drivers for Win 10 (their drivers were written for specific OS, not general like most). About a week after Win 10 was released Roland finally started upgrading drivers for devices they are going to support in Win 10.

I'm waiting a few months. Probably not very nice of me expecting others to iron out the problems beforehand *Rolleyes
Am lurking this forum on a daily basis tho trying to prepare myself. Windows 7 machines are running so well.

  7. That's quite understandable. People generally post on technical forums because they've run into problems they've been unable to solve. So, for the most part, the tens of millions of folks who have upgrade to Win10 and have NOT had any problems are probably not posting here. Of the ones that are, experiences range from minor problems with drivers -- which were later solved with driver updates, to more serious problems that were "solved" by successfully restoring the previous working OS, to really serious problems that trashed machines and left them unusable.

And, the more serious of the problems seem to have been reported more often for Win7 machines than for Win8.1 machines -- not surprising since most (if not all) Win8.1 hardware will work in Win10 and most (if not all) Win8.1 drivers will, as well.

Your best approach is to make the backups that folks have advised. My own preference is using Macrium Reflect. You can download and install that for free. Once installed, run a backup selecting the option "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows" and save the backup to an external drive. When that is done, use the MR option to create an boot USB stick or CD. THEN, you have the means to completely restore your current working system in only a few minutes.

I am having no problems with ten. The one suggestion I would give is if you are going to take advantage of being able to sync your devices, and use a Microsoft account to auto log in to the email app and one drive and store and all the other goodies that can not be turned off, then do it. If not your better off staying where you are...
