    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

Every PC can serve effectively as long as it meets the minimum requirements.

Here are the minimum system requirements for Windows 11:

    Minimum System Requirements

    • Processor: 1 GHz or faster with at least 2 cores on a compatible 64-bit processor or System on a Chip (SoC).
    • RAM: 4 GB or more.
    • Storage: 64 GB or larger storage device.
    • System Firmware: UEFI, Secure Boot capable.
    • TPM: Trusted Platform Module (TPM) version 2.0.
    • Graphics Card: Compatible with DirectX 12 or later with WDDM 2.0 driver.
    • Display: High definition (720p) display that is greater than 9” diagonally, 8 bits per color channel.
    • Internet Connection: Required for Windows 11 Home edition setup and updates.

    Step-by-Step Upgrade Process

    1. Check Compatibility
      • PC Health Check Tool: Download and run the PC Health Check tool from Microsoft's website to verify if your PC meets the Windows 11 requirements.
    2. Backup Your Data
      • Ensure all important files are backed up using an external storage device or cloud services like OneDrive
    3. Update Windows 10
      • Make sure your current Windows 10 installation is up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates.
    4. Choose Your Upgrade Method
      • Windows Update: If your PC is eligible, you may see an option to upgrade to Windows 11 in Windows Update. Click Download and install
      • Installation Assistant: Download the Windows 11 Installation Assistant from the Microsoft website. Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to upgrade.
      • Media Creation Tool: Use this tool to create installation media (USB or DVD) for a clean install or to upgrade multiple devices. Download the tool from the Microsoft website and follow the prompts.
      • ISO File: Download the Windows 11 ISO file from the Microsoft website. Mount the ISO file and run the setup.exe to start the upgrade process.
    5. Install Windows 11
      • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. You can choose to keep your personal files and apps or perform a clean install.
    6. Post-Installation Steps
      • After installation, check for updates again to ensure all drivers and system updates are installed. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click Check for updates
      • Reconnect all peripherals and ensure they are functioning correctly. Install any necessary drivers for printers, monitors, and other devices

    Additional Tips

    Do:

    • Use Official Tools: Always use official Microsoft tools for the upgrade process to avoid potential issues.
    • Monitor Performance: After upgrading, monitor your system's performance and address any issues promptly.
    Don’t:

    • Ignore Compatibility Warnings: Installing Windows 11 on unsupported hardware can lead to instability and lack of future updates.
    • Skip Backups: Always back up your data before starting the upgrade process to prevent data loss

Please feel free to reach out if you require any additional assistance. I'm here to help!

Below, I will provide some additional insights based on user reviews and experiences with Windows 11, which might help you make an informed decision about the new PC and the transition process.

    User Experiences with Windows 11

    Positive Experiences

      • Many users appreciate the new, modern interface of Windows 11, which includes a centered Start menu and taskbar, as well as features like Snap Layouts and Snap Groups for better multitasking.
      • The ability to use multiple desktops and improved integration with Microsoft Teams are also highlighted as beneficial for productivity.
    2. Stability and Performance:
      • Users have reported that Windows 11 is stable and performs well for both work and gaming, with no significant crashes or blue screens.
      • The operating system is noted for being smooth and efficient, with some users particularly enjoying the ability to run Linux within Windows 11.
    3. Gaming:
      • Windows 11 has been praised for maintaining or even improving gaming performance compared to Windows 10, making it a good choice for gamers.

    Negative Experiences

    1. Initial Setup and Compatibility Issues:
      • Some users have found the initial setup process to be lengthy and complicated, with manual configurations required.
      • There have been reports of compatibility issues with certain hardware and software, which can be frustrating.
    2. System Requirements and Forced Updates:
      • The strict system requirements, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, have been a significant barrier for many users, especially those with slightly older hardware.
      • Some users have expressed frustration with the need to create a Microsoft account and the constant prompts for updates and additional software like Office 365.
    3. Bugs and Performance Issues:
      • There have been reports of bugs and performance issues, such as system crashes, stuttering, and problems with updates causing blue screens or other errors.

    Additional Tips for Transition

    Do:

    • Consult a Professional: Given your concerns about the complexity, hiring a local tech expert can help ensure a smooth transition.
    • Check Compatibility: Make sure all your peripherals (monitors, printers) have compatible drivers for Windows 11.
    • Stay Informed: Keep up with updates and patches from Microsoft to address any initial bugs or issues.

    Don’t:

    • Ignore System Requirements: Attempting to install Windows 11 on unsupported hardware can lead to instability and lack of future updates.
    • Rush the Process: Take your time to ensure all steps are followed correctly to avoid data loss or compatibility issues.

Regarding Windows 11 desktop PCs, there are numerous options available to suit various needs. May I kindly ask what specific tasks or purposes you have in mind for your desktop?

By considering these user experiences and recommendations, you can make a more informed decision about your new Windows 11 PC and ensure a smoother transition. If you have any further questions or need more specific advice, feel free to ask.
