  1. Any way to backup (most) files, settings and applications from a newer version of Windows...

Context: I've been running Insider Preview builds for a few years and am thinking of moving back to a retail build (yes, I know there is r/windowsinsiders, but this is more of a general question). From what I've read, Dev channel builds aren't tied to a specific release anymore, so waiting to go back to retail isn't really a viable option.

I understand that going back isn't a perfect process, but is there a way to backup most, if not all data (games, apps, settings, etc.) and restore it to an older version, similar to how you would back up an iPhone? I have other people sharing that PC (granted, when I joined back then I was the only user), and having to re-install everything would be a headache.

  2. Not able to install exe file created in WINDEV application

Since you mentioned that the application worked in a previous version of Windows, we would like to clarify if you attempted to install the application using compatibility mode as was suggested in the previous post? The reason we need to verify if you have
completed the steps provided is because compatibility mode allows older programs to work in a more recent version of Windows. Also we need the answers to the following questions below:

    • Were there any newer versions of the application you're attempting to install that is made for windows 10?
    • Which version and build of Windows 10 do you have installed in the computer?

    Regards.

  3. Not able to install exe file created in WINDEV application

    Hi,

There are different factors that can contribute as to why you are no longer able to install an application that worked in a previous version of Windows. This could be caused by compatibility settings that we need to change or missing update components. For
us to resolve your concern, kindly answer the questions below:

    • What application are you trying to install in Windows 10?
    • Have you checked if there were any newer releases of the application you are trying to install?
    • Which version and build of Windows 10 do you have installed?

As a initial recommendation, we suggest that you attempt to install the application using compatibility mode. This will install the program using settings from a previous version of Windows. You can follow the steps that are available through this

  4. Any way to backup (most) files, settings and applications from a newer version of Windows...

    Backup using file history

    Thanks Robeline

I was going by other advice and articles that suggest that backing up under Update and security/backup is now the way to go. I will try your suggestion.
