    Any way to totally halt all Windows 10 updates EXCEPT Defender?


    Windows 10 says I need to update. Eventually the update process does an end run around my attempts to delay it. Update takes over the machine at an inconvenient time. Then it dicks around “updating” and restarting for an hour or so and concludes with a blue screen and an unsmiley confessing that “:- something went wrong and we have to send data to Microsoft, don’t shut off the machine. 0% complete”.

    Of course, my machine is not sending data, since the 0% sign is on forever: update is DEAD.

    I manually restart. Fortunately, update posts a message that it is undoing all the changes to my machine.

    Really.

    I’ve had enough of these shenanigans. Leave me alone.

    Windows 10 Anniversary Update Issues

    Problems with W10 Anniv auto update:

    Mom's: (x58 Xeon 5677) Windows Defender was not turned back on automatically (it was "on" in the 1511 edition) and she had a Trojan. Full system scan to eradicate.
    Her Epson printer was knocked off, had to uninstall by Device Manager pull USB cable and reconnect cable. W10 did the rest.

    Step-mom's: (HP pre built) Windows Defender not turned back on by default. Her USB Seagate Expansion Drive 2Tb was offline so all backup routines were halted. Had to rerun backup plan. Had her do a full virus scan.

    Step-dad's: (Dell Optiplex tweaked upgrades) Windows Defender not turned back on by default. Full Scan.

    SEtting up automatic updates for windows defender on windows 8

    I have found this on the internet en have set up a task for automatic definitions update for Windows Defender but a window pops up when this starts to run.
    Is there a way to set this without any window popping up so that it just runs in the background?

    Now I'm using
    "C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -SignatureUpdate -MMPC

    I suggest you to follow the steps below:

    • Type defender in the search box.
    • Click on update.
    • Check for the date on which defender is being updated.
    • If the recent date is mentioned then it will not show in the Automatic Updates.
    • Also click on update definition and check if any update is pending.
