    eSATA device not recognized

That "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" was already in Device Manager, but wasn't recognizing devices attached to it. I ended up downloading the Windows 8 x64 driver, and using the installer. That made it work. The JMB controller on my system
is on the mainboard, so maybe that was the difference? Anyway, the driver I used was this one:

    ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/SATA_Controller/Windows/JMB36X_WinDrv_R1.17.65_WHQL_eSATA.zip

  3. Windows 10 upgrade " No Audio Device Installed" Code 10 Error

Computor Information: Asus K73E Laptop PC, Windows 10 Home, x64 based

Steps that I have taken to fix this problem:

    • Upgraded High Definition Audio Controller automatically
    • Upgraded the driver manually
    • picked from list of drivers available (only 1 available)
    • Went to realtek site and downloaded the most recent drivers from them and manually installed
    • uninstalling and reinstalling said driver
    • disabling and enabling driver
    • shuting down and restarting laptop after each change
    • reformatting the drive and rebooting windows completely from scratch
    • Updating firmware
    • running windows update

The icon still remains to have a red "x" over the audio. It still says "No audio output device is installed". I have tried everything I can possibly think of.

    The device hardware ID's are:

    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C20&SUBSYS_1AA31043&REV_05

    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C20&SUBSYS_1AA31043

    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C20&CC_040300

    PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C20&CC_0403

High Definition Audio Controller device status says:

"This device cannot start. (Code 10)

    {Operation Failed}

    The requested operation was unsuccessful."

    version: 10.0.10240.16384

Thanks for your help in advance. I have been at this for 2 days now.

Any x64 device driver available for my antique Smartlink PCI Modem?

Look for the FCC ID number on the modem. Do a Google search on the FCC ID number to find other brands or models with the same number. The drivers from those modems may work. On the FCC website a search of the FCC ID database may also turn up models with the same FCC ID number and their drivers may work.

I believe if two pieces of hardware use the same FCC ID number they use the same chipset or even the same circuit board design.

  5. Answering my own question here...

After extensive searching I found this site that actually contains a working driver for this PCI Smartlink fax/modem that I have:

Drivers for Smart Link 56K Voice Modem

The driver that worked for me within this page has a version number of 4.20.01.00. I also needed to replace the .cat files in the archive with dummy digital signature files then disable driver signature enforcement for the installation to work.

UPDATE: I also ended up having to permanently disable driver signature enforcement per instructions here, which leaves a watermark on my desktop. If anyone knows another (better) way to permanently disable driver signature please let me know.

  6. *Sad this doesn't seem to work anymore after updating Win10 to version 10586.3. Now the machine insists on verifying the digital signature even in test mode (i.e. with watermark on desktop)...

  7. Spent some more time trying to figure out what's going on, and it seems the only valid method to disable driver signature enforcement with 10586 is to do a shift-restart and "F7" to manually trigger bypassing the enforcement every time you power on the machine (except when fast startup is enabled and you make sure you only do 'shutdown' and not 'restart' everytime, i.e. the bypass setting survives a shutdown action but not restart).

Anyone who knows of a way to permanently disable driver signature enforcement on Win10 10586?

    Or:
    Select the “Start” button.
    2.Type “startup”.
    3.Select “Change advanced startup settings“.
4.Select “Restart now” under the “Advanced startup” area.
    5.Select “Troubleshoot“.
    6.Select “Advanced Options“.
    7.Select “Startup Options“.
    8.Select “Restart“.
9.A menu will appear where you can press “7” on your keyboard to choose “Disable driver signing enforcement“.

  9. Yes but I am saying this only works until the next restart, unless I go through the entire "advanced startup" procedure you suggested EVERYTIME I restart my machine...

i.e. your suggestion will only disable driver signature enforcement for one single session. What I need is a way to permanently disable driver signature enforcement.

Isn't any way to just sign the driver? Look at the instructions you downloaded and try to sign it again. It could work. What do you need a modem anyway? Don't you have a fast DSL connection? I would just disable the device in Device Manager and forget about it.

  11. It is a fax modem. Used now just for the occasional fax.

Anyway I am answering my own question yet again:

Someone in another forum provided this useful answer - use Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider to add unverified signature to the required system files with missing digital signatures. Then the rest is the same with the enabling of Test Mode (as mentioned somewhere above) to allow for the acceptance of unverified signatures, which will leave a watermark on your desktop.

Well, I'm not 100% sure, but there could be a utility to send faxes over an ADSL line without the need for a modem-fax. Isn't there any utility? Or is there any way to send them though the Internet? Another solution is a multifunction printer with FAX function. In some models you can even "print" to the respective virtual FAX printer and create a FAX directly from Word or other applications. I can do that with my HP Photosmart C7280 All in One.

  14. Forgot to update this thread. The driver has actually been working fine for a while before the Win10 anniversary update.... then I had to do it all over again to make it work once again after the update. Here is the procedure: (for my own reference more than anything else as it seems no one else in this world is using a PCI-based faxmodem card anymore *Smile)

    1. Download driver via link provided in post #3 of this thread
    2. Put the system into test mode per instructions provided in post #3 (will need to reboot, remember to disable fast startup first)
    3. Install the driver UNDER DEVICE MANAGER by clicking on the driver tab of the device then 'update driver...'
    4. You will still be greeted with a message that says driver unsigned. After installing, go figure out which file(s) are unsigned by clicking on the 'driver details' button
    5. For each of the unsigned file(s), use the tool 'driver signature enforcement overrider' (link provided in post #9), select 'sign a system file', then sign each of the file(s) in question
    6. Reboot. Enjoy using the device.

Thanks for sharing. An easy way to enter the Advanced Boot menu is to hold SHIFT and restart your computer. It will restart directly to the Advanced Boot menu so you can choose the "Do not force driver signature" option (I think this is 7).
