Xbox Game Bar on Windows 11 pretends to be muted, despite not being muted.

    Hi Into Comatos,

Welcome to Microsoft Xbox Community Forum. I understand that you're experiencing issues with the Xbox Game Bar on Windows 11. I'll do my best to help you resolve this issue.

Based on the information you've provided; it seems like the Xbox Game Bar is not properly recognizing your microphone when you launch a game. This could be caused by a number of factors, including incorrect settings or a software issue.

To troubleshoot this issue, I recommend trying the following steps:

    1. Check your microphone settings: Make sure that your microphone is set as the default recording device in Windows. To do this, right-click on the speaker icon in the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings." Under the "Input" section, select your microphone and click "Set as default."

    2. Check your Xbox Game Bar settings: Open the Xbox Game Bar and click on the gear icon to access the settings. Under the "Audio" section, make sure that your microphone is selected as the default recording device.

    3. Update your audio drivers: Make sure that your audio drivers are up to date. You can do this by going to the manufacturer's website and downloading the latest drivers for your device.

    4. App interference: Check if there are any other apps or settings that may interfere with the Xbox Game Bar app. For example, some antivirus or firewall software may block the app from accessing your microphone or other audio devices. You can try disabling or adding an exception for the Xbox Game Bar app in your antivirus or firewall settings. You can also check if there are any other apps that may use your microphone in the background, such as Skype, Discord, or Zoom, and close them before launching a game.

    5. Reset the Xbox Game Bar: If none of the above steps work, try resetting the Xbox Game Bar. To do this, open the Settings app and go to "Apps & features." Find the Xbox Game Bar in the list of apps and click on it. Select "Advanced options" and then click "Reset."

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

  3. Xbox Game Bar on Windows 11 pretends to be muted, despite not being muted.

    Hi everyone.

Over the past month or so, I've been having a strange issue with the Game Bar on Windows 11. Every time I launch a game, it refuses to record my microphone unless I mute it in game bar, then unmute it. I have to do this every single time I launch a game or it will only pick up the rest of my PCs audio.

The microphone setting in game bar is never actually muted and once I mute then unmute, it works fine, but if I forget to do that upon opening a game, I am essentially losing part of my audio every single time.

I've re-installed the app, reset it, and even did a registry wipe of the app and nothing seems to help.

Anyone else have this problem and find a solution to it?

Edit: It also seems to be unregistering my microphone input every time I alt+tab out of my game as well, typically into Discord. This means I have to manually mute my mic in game bar and unmute it every single time I switch windows. Not sure when this started but it didn't always happen this way as well.
