Windows 10: Anyone using a Universal Docking Station - for 2 monitors on a laptop?

I have a friend who is trying to use two monitors on her laptop. A splitter is not working for her. We are looking at Docking Stations as a solution.

Is anyone here doing this? I'd like to know a couple of things.

Do these require a USB 3.1 port? A lot have/need a USB-C connection. So will they still work if you only have USB 3.0 and a Type-A port?

A lot of these have 1 HDMI output and then 1 or 2 DisplayPort outputs. Only a couple of the cheaper ones had two HDMI ports. I'd like to know if these work, since HDMI doesn't like splitting.

Most important: does it work well? Is it easy for a novice to set up?

Universal docking station wont display monitor

I have an Inspiron 5 and am trying to use a Dell Monitor with a Kensington Universal Docking Station. I have Windows 10. Everything is working but the monitor

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

• 
  Make sure the power light for the docking station is on
  
• 
  Make sure the monitor is getting power
  
• 
  Make sure the cable is connected properly to the monitor
  
• 
  Unplug and reconnect the Mini-DVI adapter on the back of your docking station
  
• 
  Try flipping the connector for the adapter over (turns out some adapters can go in upside-down)
  
• 
  Take the Surface out of the docking station then put it back in

Windows Powershell- Detect Docking Stations and attached monitors


I am trying to write a script to detect all docking stations and monitors attached to those docking station for Lenovo Thinkpad t540p laptops on a domain network. Most of the monitors are Asus. Any suggestions or is this even possible? Running powershell from DEV WIN 10
