Windows 10: Apparent clash between Outlook 365 and Windows Explorer

    Apparent clash between Outlook 365 and Windows Explorer


    I think maybe this started at the second last Win10 update. (April/May2018?)


    When I have Outlook (365) open, and I open a windows explorer window with a full list view (off the bottom of the screen), about every 10 seconds, the window refreshes and sends me back to the top.


    If I create a new folder, and start typing a new name for it, if i dither, it boots me out, renaming it 'New Folder'. A similar thing happens in most dialogue boxes. With longer file names, this can take me over 10 attempts to complete it. Sometimes I have to do it in bits, typing....clicking out....clicking back in...etc.


    If I close Outlook, none of this happens.


    Strangely, when I have Outlook visible in the background, and I see a window refresh, wherever my cursor is, horizontally the nearest email highlights light blue. Even if the window at the front is active. This seems to be the moment the window refreshes. It's like Outlook is refreshing, which then affects windows.


    Can't find anything at all that helps me.


    I have tried the background refresh fix. Nothing. (auto desktop change....and also auto colour pick - both are off)

    I have tried reinstalling everything involved. Nothing.

    Logically, it can't be a display driver issue. (which one of the last updates ruined anyway, so I daren't update it, as it seems to work for now - I lost 2 inches of screen on each side about 3 months ago for a month)

    This is an awkward problem to solve and one I don't think is worth the time and effort.

    The OP would be better off either using a modern webmail service like gmail or outlook.com or using a modern email client like Windows Live Mail like FX-GMC suggested or Thunderbird from Mozilla. If nothing else, Outlook Distress was notorious for corrupting its data files and losing all your email in one easy step. Not worth it.

    How to install outlook express on windows xp with explorer 8?

    This was going to be my suggestion as well. I just wasn't sure if it worked with XP. It is definitely way better than Outlook Express, and I actually prefer it to regular Outlook as well.

    You could install Windows Live Mail which is part of Windows Live Essentials. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3945

    Windows Live Mail is what Outlook Express turned in to.
