AppData folder using up 56% of hard drive space

    I have a friend with a laptop, Dell, with a 120GB SSD.

    Windows 10

The AppData folder now uses 62GB of space, far more than my 14 year old desktop. The only software installed is Office 365 Home and Student.

    This simply can't be right.

Typical clean up scans have no affect, nothing, zero, nada, has been found.

How do I clean up the superfluous stuff from that folder?

I'm helping him remotely, so a reset is simply not practical.

Sorry if this is in the wrong topic area, by topic area title, none of them seem to be the correct one to select.

    :)

  2. Moving Librariy files and folders to secondary hard drive

    Hi Bailey,

We appreciate you for being part of Windows 10.

Yes, as you said you will face problems if you cut and paste the library folders to the new hard drive. If you cut and paste the libraries folder some of the Windows functions such as Downloads, Music, Pictures and Videos
    will not work properly

If you want to access the library folders in the new hard drive, I suggest you to copy the Library folders (Documents, Music, Pictures and Videos). Follow the steps to copy the library folders.

    • Press Windows + E keys on the keyboard to open Windows explorer.

    • Find the Libraries on the left navigation pane of the Windows Explorer. (If libraries are not there, click on
View tab at the top of Windows explorer, click on Navigation pane and select the
      Show Libraries)

    • Now, right click on Libraries from the left navigation pane and click on
      Copy.

    • Open the new hard drive and paste the Libraries folder by pressing
CTRL + V key on the keyboard. (paste the libraries folders on the new hard drive where ever you want)

As you have less space on the primary hard drive, I suggest you to follow the below article to free up drive space.

AppData folder using up 56% of hard drive space

Edge taking up 16.9GB of space in appdata folder

    Hi Johnnyq3,

The AppData folder contains the roaming folder and a local folder which contains information, settings and app related data about your Microsoft roaming account as well as local information.

If the AppData folder is consuming too much space on the hard drive, it could be due to some of the files related to certain application installed on the computer which you may not know about. You might browse around a bit and find out which one it is in
the folder. If any of the file name that looks or related to any application which you do not use or require on the computer, you may go ahead and uninstall the application from Control Panel.

Go to the AppData location and check which folder is consuming more space.

You can also use for example this software to determine what is using your disk space:

Hope this information is useful for you!

    Kind regards,

    Leon
