I am having a very frustrating on-going problem with my computer. After running for several days, the mouse and keyboard become unresponsive for 5-30 seconds, the CPU fan will increase RPM, and I can see explorer.exe using more CPU than normal. This behavior will occur randomly throughout the day, killing my productivity when it happens. Eventually, explorer.exe will crash and restart. About 3 months ago, I wiped and reloaded Windows after trying all the usual suspects such as DISM and SFC /scannow.SourceWindows ExplorerSummaryStopped responding and was closedDate‎

Unresponsive Mouse and Keyboard in Windows 10

    Hi,

One reason why your mouse and keyboard is not working is because of an outdated driver. We suggest that you update the mouse and keyboard driver by following the steps below:

    • Pres Windows+X key on your keyboard.
    • Select Device Manager.
    • Locate the mouse and keyboard drivers, right click, then click on Update.

If you need further assistance, don't hesitate to reach out.

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand your concern and would suggest you to try to boot into Safe Mode with Networking. Here is the steps:

    • Press and hold the shift key
while clicking on Restart at the login Screen (Bottom right corner) > Troubleshoot>Advanced Options>Startup Settings>Restart >>Choose
      Enable Safe mode with networking.

If the mouse/keyboard works, then update the Mouse and keyboard driver. Here is the steps:

    • Press Windows+X key on your desktop and select
      Device Manager.
Locate the mouse drivers, expand, right click and click
    on Update.

If it doesn’t help, then I would suggest you to

    for your computer.

    2. Press

    right click, then select Properties.

    7. Select
    Compatibility Tab.

    8. Place a check mark next to
Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the operating system accordingly from the drop down list.

    9. Let the driver to install and then check the functionality.
