The developer of the main app I use has confirmed they have no plans to develop their app for Windows phone unfortunately.

And of course they can't possibly change their mind.. ever...

When was this? Was this after Microsoft's recent announcement of native ios app portability? Do they even know about it? "Plans" can change when you find out it will take 3 hours to port your code to a new platform.

Just ask BlackBerry how well that went. It was an easy port there also.

I just found it a tad strange to be posting stuff about Apple products in a Windows 10 forum.*Smile

Tech articles are what I like to read, especially about the mobile market and the miniaturization of mobile devices. Anyone that knows me here knows that I usually stick to Windows 10, but what caught my interest in the article and I tried to stress in my second post was MS's plan with Continuum within Windows 10 convertibles, pads, and phablets and the potential there.

There are some of us members that own and use Windows phones. Brink and badrobot to name a few. MS has already released a preview of Windows 10 Mobile that some have installed. Most members probably have iPhones, Androids, and other brands. I see no harm in posting an article focused on an iPhone's mile marker if eventually it educates us about what's going on within the mobile sector. Include the Surface also.

There are threads dedicated to Windows phone. Brink has published many a tutorial on it. 10F isn't just about tower PCs anymore. *Wink

It was nine days ago when MS forwarded my message to HSBC and HSBC responded to me. But considering you know more than me and HSBC perhaps you can let me know when they're going to change their mind?

    Hi there.

Sharkley's Bank (aka Barclays Bank !!) in the UK also doesn't have Windows phone Banking app either.

Windows apps are also lacking for quite a lot of what I think a HUGE number of people use phones for too. Proper business type apps - not just silly games etc.

In the UK I believe National Rail (quite a good app for looking up Train times) doesn't exist on Windows phones, nor do the ticket booking facilities -- especially now as some of the UK (and other European) railway companies are issuing paperless "M-Tickets" which you just present to the reader at the various station terminals --these tickets have those "square" type barcodes on your mobile phone which saves a HUGE hassle of dealing with paper tickets.

But of course unless there's a compelling reason developers won't be encouraged to develop these apps if there's no market.

Windows phones need to attack on TWO fronts -- BETTER HANDSETS (as I've already pointed out) and more BUSINESS type apps (Hotel bookings, travel, etc. They have a winner with the Office type apps but seemed to have left the travel side a bit light and also Banking which more and more people want to do on their phones.

However if the desktop version of Windows could be made to run on a Windows phone (with the suitable touch UI of course) then IMO most WINDOWS apps could be ported to the phone which would overcome the lack of specific phone apps.

I suspect that W10 for phones still has vestiges of that useless RT system which as we all know is going nowhere.

    Cheers

Completely agree @jimbo45. There's a a reason why large corporations aren't planning on developing apps for Windows phone, I just wish MS would grab the bull by the horns and drag Windows phone into the forefront of the smartphone market. I wonder if it would take three hours for a banking firm to port all of their three tier security over to Windows phone from the iPhone app... Personally I doubt it although I don't know for sure, but I guess if that was the case they'd have done it by now.

  12. I'm with you! I had the HTC One M8 (windows) phone for a bit and really liked it. But the missing apps just didn't cut the mustard for me so I switched to an iPhone 6+. If/when Windows phones get some of those important apps on them I'll revisit a Windows phone. Until then, I'll stay in the Apple camp for phones.

Admittedly the Windows phone is lacking in apps. Bottom line is that they were to slow to the game. My bank doesn't have one. A popular internet jukebox down at our local watering hole is another. A huge construction material supplier is yet another. I've emailed all three asking if one is in development. Never heard back from the bank, but the jukebox and supply companies emailed the standard corp response of "We'll let you know".

I think you're correct, Boozad. MS should take the bull by the horns and do something. Perhaps offer a free service to port apps over to Windows? It would cost pocket change to them. Of course there's probably copyright involved. Overall they do need to do something.
