Application can no longer access files in "C:\Program Files" after Windows 10 Update

Hello All,I have a customer running Windows 10 Professional, build 19042, and since their PC recently lost power, it was restarted. After the restart, our software application cannot seem to open due to an exception from being unable to access dependent files in its install folder, which is in "C:\Program Files". The application runs fine when its install folder is in another location, such as the Documents folder or the Desktop, but not "C:\Program Files". It seems like the loss of power may have triggered a Windows update, which I can see in the Event Viewer Logs for the Windows Update Clien

I want to move "Program Files"

OK the steps as I have performed them (note that F: was my destination drive):

#1 Install "Windows 2003 Pro Ressource Kit".

#2 Go to DOS prompt and perform the following: xcopy /s /e /h /r /k /o /x "c:\program files" "f:\program files". This will take a while as it copying quite a massive amount of data from one disk to the other.

#3 Compare both "c*Stick Out Tongue Application can no longer access files in "C:\Program Files" after Windows 10 Update :program Files" and "f*Stick Out Tongue Application can no longer access files in "C:\Program Files" after Windows 10 Update :program Files" for bytes count and files count for a match.

#4 Reboot in safe mode as system administrator

#5 In dos prompt, enter rd /s "c:\Program Files". It worked, except for around 10 files (NERO and Acrobat) that I got an "Access Refused".

#6 Perform a rename "c:\Program Files" "c:\_p" to fix temporarely the situation, before linking the newly created "F:\Program Files".

#7 Now go to where the new tool resides by typing cd "F:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools\", still in dos prompt.

#8 linkd "C:\Program Files" "F:\Program Files" (link the newly created "Program Files" back to C: drive)

    #9 Reboot Windows

#10 Finally, delete the last bits of the previous setup located in "C:\_p" using Windows Explorer

    Tada

It seems to work. I will try see if when I install new programs, that it will effectively put them in F:. The way I will see that is if I install a program, will the disk space in C: reduce as much as the install files or will it be the F:.

Anyway, for anyone else who would be tempted to do this, it seems rather simple and doesn't break the configuration.

Partitioning Program Files/Program Files(x86) from Windows 10 install?

In the coming week I will be installing Windows 10 Home on my new computer. I will be using an SSD and an HDD, the SSD for the OS, programs and games and the HDD for photos, music and all the other slow stuff.
So, my question. In case the OS were to ever get corrupted, or I had to reinstall the OS for any other reason, is it possible to have the SSD set up as follows; Partition 1 - OS, Partition 2 - Program Files/Program Files((x86) plus other associated folders/files) and Partition 3 for my games, so that any re-install does not wipe out my already installed programs?

I had no problem doing this in with my XP desktop(OS in C and Progs in D, although not perfect, but was never able to do it with Windows 7.

    Can it be done?

    Tom.

Application can no longer access files in "C:\Program Files" after Windows 10 Update

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
