Windows 10: Applications and dialog boxes are opening in the background instead of foreground in Windows 11

I just got a new laptop with Windows 11 and this issue is driving me crazy. Applications and dialog boxes are all opening in the background BEHIND already opened applications. Sometimes the application or dialog box will open in the foreground for a couple of seconds then quickly disappear behind other applications. Most of the time, I never see it open at all and have to minimize other applications to confirm it even opened. This question has been posed in the past by others for Windows 10, but it's not clear to me if there was a solution identified. This makes working on multiple files and a

An app is suddenly running in background instead of foreground as it should

I run Windows 10.

When I tried to start an app it suddenly started to run in the background instead of foreground as it should, as seen in the Taskmanager.

It is an "external" app and is thus not listed in the Settings-privacy- background apps list

I want to force it back to run as foreground app again.

Is it possible?

 

New window opens in foreground instead of background

Hi,

I recently got a new laptop (running windows 10) and when i click on any file on Windows Explorer, it opens up the new window in the foreground. For Example, this gets quite tedious when I want to open up multiple Powerpoints to study, when i click on a powerpoint
it opens up on top of the windows explorer so I always have to open the windows explorer up again.

On my old laptop (running Windows 10) when I clicked on a powerpoint from Windows Explorer the powerpoint opened up in the background, so it was a lot easier to open up multiple files without switching back and forth between windows explorer and each Powerpoint
file every time I click on a powerpoint file.

I was wondering what setting I can change to get any files (videos, powerpoints, word files, and etc) to open up in the background when I am using file explorer instead of on top of windows explorer.

Windows 10 - Dialog boxes not showing in the foreground

There are already many user complaints and various posts about this problem, but it does not seem to be actually addressed and handled:

In Windows 10, when a program (such as File Explorer, internet browsers such as Firefox, MS Office program) need to issue a dialog box prompting user interaction, it mostly opens in the background. This means your app appears to freeze or "does not work".
For example, if a proxy is required on your network and Firefox is prompting for a login, then this appears BEHIND the web page you are trying to open. Firefox appears to be "waiting" and loads forever, never getting anywhere.

It appears some Microsoft apps behave correctly (Internet Explorer for example).

This is simply because every Windows desktop app has been designed for decades with the concept that when a dialog box shows for user interaction it is always in the foreground. Of course - where else should it show? But now for some reason this weird change
in Windows 10 makes it show wherever. Microsoft - please - you cannot change the behavior of millions of existing apps, this has got to be reverted to sensible normal behavior.

How can one tell Microsoft about this problem? It is reported since a year and more, people resort to Autohotkey scripts and "Dexpot" and the like to get some kind of solution. It isn't sufficient to fix Microsoft apps - what about the millions of desktop
applications which cannot be "fixed"? Windows cannot just change its behavior on this crucial user interface issue, rendering applications virtual useless and a constant annoyance ...?

Is that really necessary? Can we get the expected, user-friendly behavior back? What line do we have to communicate this?
