Windows 10: Applications Fail to Load because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect?

Hi - I can't open any of my applications in Windows 10. Nor can I download and exe. updates or programs. The message I keep getting is "Applications Fail to Load because its side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command -line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail" I've looked into and don't know what to do next or have a clue how to fix it. Any suggestions on how I can remedy this would be appreciated.
