Windows 10: applications launching on unlisted virtual desktops

Hi all,I am having an Issue on my Intel NUC running Windows 10 Pro. Some applications that I try to launch e.g. Task manager, google chrome, will launch successfully but on unlisted desktops. I thought task Manager was broken initially, but I saw this problem when accessing my Intel NUC using Chrome Remote Desktop. I have tried using the windows task view shortcut Win key + TAB key to look at open applications/desktops, but even when task manager is open on an unlisted desktop, I am unable to access it. I am currently reinstalling Windows to see if this will fix the problem. However, I am

Keep virtual desktop apps from launching windows in other desktops?

In Windows 7's virtual desktops (Desktops v2.0, SysInternals) when an application running in a virtual desktop launched new applications (such as a console app launching a web browser), they would open in that specific virtual desktop and stay away
from my "original" desktop.

In Windows 10's virtual desktops, however, new applications opened by an application in a virtual desktop tend to pop up on the active desktop, which defeats the whole purpose of using a virtual desktop for me.

Is there any way to return this behavior to what it was in Windows 7 and force applications to keep anything they launch in their own virtual desktop?

 

Move Applications Between Virtual Desktops

Try the following steps to move applications between virtual desktops.

• 
  Right-click on the program you want to move.
  
• 
  Select “Move to”, and then select the desktop number to which you want to move the program.
  

You can also, drag and drop the app of your choice to the desktop you want to add.

BSOD when launching Virtual Machine

I appreciate your effort on this. I understand how difficult it could be when the computer doesn’t work as it is supposed to, we will look into this for you. Please reply with the following details to assist you with the appropriate troubleshooting
steps:

• Which application are you using to create Virtual Machine?
  
• Does the issue occur only when launching a Virtual Machine?
  
• Have you reinstalled Windows on the computer?
  
• What is the make and model of the computer?
  

I have analyzed the dump files shared by you. Since the issue occurs when you launch Virtual Machine, I suggest you to try disabling the VMWare USB Arbitration Service and check if that helps. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + R, to open
   Run dialog box.
   
2. Type services.msc and click on
   OK.
   
3. Look for the VMWare USB Arbitration Service and double click on it to open
   Properties.
   
4. Select Disabled from the drop down for
   Startup and Stop the service.
   
5. Click on Apply and OK.
