Windows 10: Applications not running after surprise update.

I was working on a school assignment when my computer gave me a warning that Windows was going to sign me out in a minute. I do not remember what else the surprise pop-up said. I saved my document then kept working. My computer Victus by HP 15L shut down to restart on its own. I am able to type in text fields. The internet connects. I can only open Windows Explorer to view files in their folders but I cannot open them. I cannot open any other application Chrome, Steam, Microsoft Word, etc. Ctrl+Alt+Del did not work but Win+X opened a menu. Nothing I clicked on opened. Right-clicking does n

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Not Surprising

Not surprising, as most desktops (worldwide) are running W7.

Also MS' has behaviour has guaranteed this outcome:

• The GWX fiascos encouraged lots of users to disable Windows Update
• To make sure WU wasn't turned back on MS switched to cumulative updates
• For additional insurance they made sure that everyone knew cumulative updates contained modified telemetry

 

Explorer.exe, Werfault.exe, RuntimeBroker.exe (application errors). start wont come up and application errors wont go
