Windows 10: Apps not closing in Windows-10; shutdown stalling and taking too long

I am trying to resolve a set of performance issues with Windows 10 related to apps not being closed when the app is supposed to be closed i.e., still running in the background, when there is a shutdown stalling the S/D process, and the apps resume themselves in the background upon startup.I have reviewed the internet and this problem is more than six years old with respect to the clock and calculator. Both of which keep running in the background.Other programs are also running when they should be shutdown. After the 212H update, the problem simply got worst.This leads to the point that s

My pc takes for ever to shut down when i restart

Suggest cleaning up your startup list .There may be many services / Apps you can remove on startup which is not needed on boot or during shutdown.
Before you shutdown the Pc check what is running in Task Manager as a program or service in not killing the process on shutdown

Would suggest cleaning up running apps and services -Autoruns, StartupMonitor,HighjackThis,
Malware Scan - Malwarebytes,ADWcleaner, Combofix

 

Windows taking very long to shutdown/restart, booting unaffected

Hi @Serbanx and welcome to Tenforums

First, disable fast startup
second, enable startup/shutdown verbos (it will show you which program / service taking time to shutdown)

if none of this works I suggest you take a trace using Windows performance Recorder (see similar threads on the forum)

 

Windows 10 Laptop takes too long to shutdown

Of late whenever I shutdown my laptop, it takes so long to completely shutdown. So when I shutdown , everything seems fine and the screen turns off, but the laptop itself is still on, (The lights are still on, the laptop is still running).Earlier on it
took only seconds before it completely shutdown, now it almost takes a century for the system to completely power off. Any help will be appreciated. I use Windows 10 Pro
