Apps window can now now retain their sizes in Windows 10 after changing screen resolution

It has been three years since the release of Windows 10, and today it’s running on more than 700 million devices worldwide. Thanks to the Windows as a Service approach, Windows 10 keeps getting better. Microsoft’s desktop operating system get constant security updates twice a month and new features about every six months.

Later this year, Microsoft is expected to unveil a new feature update, which will empower users to do more. In addition to Fluent Design and Microsoft Edge improvements, Microsoft is also bringing a new handy feature that will improve the overall gaming experience.

It appears that in Windows 10 Redstone 5, the opened windows can now retain their sizes after changing the resolution. Earlier the users had to resize the windows after playing any games that doesn’t support large monitors/resolutions.

The legacy games such as Seven Kingdoms works in lower resolution only and after quitting the game, the users were required to resize everything. This bug has been finally addressed in Windows 10 with Redstone 5 update.

  3. Help! Windows 10 changed my resolution and can't see anything!!

    Hi Etan,

We appreciate you for being part of Windows 10.

Monitors can support resolutions that are lower than their native resolutions, but text won't look as sharp and the display might be small, centered on the screen, edged with black, or stretched. It is recommended to set the screen resolution of the display
to the (Recommended) native resolution to get the best display on your monitor. Your screen resolution needs to be at least
1024x768 to have multiple windows and apps on your screen at the same time.

Kindly follow the below methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

I suggest you to set the Display Resolution on your monitor to the recommended level. Follow the below steps

    • Open the Start menu and type Settings in the search bar.
    • Click on System and select Display.
    • Make sure that you have set the Change the size of the text, apps and other items to 100%
      recommended.
    • Click on Advanced display settings.
    • Select the monitor and make sure that you have selected Resolution
      to 1920*1080 Recommended.
If the issue still persists, then follow the below method.

    Method 2:

I suggest you to update the display adapter then try to change the screen resolution.

Follow the steps given below to uninstall and reinstall the display drivers.

    • Press Windows key + X and select Device Manager.
    • Search for Display Adapters and expand it.
    • Right click on the Display Adapters and select Uninstall.
If the issue still persists, I suggest you to contact the manufacturer to download the latest display adapters.

Kindly let us know if you need any further assistance with Windows. We are glad to assist you.

    Thank you.

What is the make and model of the computer?

It is very important to have the correct screen resolution settings in your Windows PC as it facilitates better display of content and the clarity of images. Higher is the resolution, sharper are the images and contents on your PC

I suggest you to check the resolution of your screen and make changes according to your requirements. To change screen resolution follow the steps below

    • Go to your Desktop,right-click your mouse and go to Display Settings.
    • A panel will open. Here you can adjust the size of text, apps, and other items and also change the orientation. To change the resolution settings, scroll down this window and click on Advanced Display Settings
1366 X 768 is the recommended screen resolution

    • You can change it according to your requirements.
NOTE: Lower is the resolution, larger is the content displayed on your screen. From the available options in the drop-down menu, select the one you want and click Apply

    • If it is not the optimal setting for your system, you will see an Optimal Resolution Notification
You may ignore the notification and confirm your Screen Resolution changes by clicking on
