  1. Are Moden Apps the same in desktop mode as tablet mode?

My apologies if this question seems basic, but I really am confused.

I'm trying to understand why I would want to use tablet mode. Apart from the minimize, maximize and "x" buttons found in desktop mode. Aren't the modern tile apps that you can launch straight from the start menu in desktop mode, exactly the same as the ones in tablet mode? Apart from the apps being full screen.

If so, I'm thinking I may as well just stay in desktop mode and launch the apps from the start menu in desktop mode?

    Thank you for your time

    :)

  2. Is it the same to log into safe mode in tablet as in pc

    Hi Vanessa,

Thanks for responding to this question. I have a tablet with Windows 10 as well, and the procedures you link to require a keyboard. I have a Bluetooth keyboard which is not active when Windows asks for numerical response. So I can choose anything, and
touchscreen is not active, either. After a timeout, the device powers off, then new power-ons are not in Safe Mode.

How do I get into Safe Mode without a keyboard?

    THanks!

  3. Is it the same to log into safe mode in tablet as in pc

    Hi Kermit,

Thank you for posting your response.

As per the above stated information, I suggest that you connect your tablet to an OTG keyboard and check if you are able to proceed further the process.

    Hope this helps

  5. I knew that but forgot to put it in my post, I've amended it now. So apart from a very minor difference in "full screen" where you don't have the small taskbar, and those listed above. There is no other difference?

I'm just wondering why they bothered with tablet mode at all. Seems as if you may as well stay in desktop mode and launch the tablet friendly modern apps from the start menu.

  6. spacing is different in tablet mode to make things more suitable for touch

really depends on your screen size which one you use, on 10"+ screens you can probably use either mode
on screens of 7" or 8" desktop is awkward to use, tablet mode is slightly better but not great

  7. Hey, thanks for the reply.

When you say the spacing is different, I can see the tile spacing in tablet mode is different but this is really a very moot point. Everything else seems exactly the same including text size and apps seem to be identical? Is there anything else spacing wise that's different or is it just the tiles you mean?

  8. Are Moden Apps the same in desktop mode as tablet mode?

I though the apps did, but just tested a view and the don't seem to anymore

It seems that now in tablet mode it just makes the icons bigger on the taskbar and makes all apps full screen (also disables the desktop in tablet mode)

  9. Thanks again for helping, seems to me tablet mode is virtually totally unnecessary. I think they should have done away with it and just made desktop mode ever so slightly more touch friendly ie. making the minimize, maximize buttons slightly bigger. As people use bigger screens it also seems tablet mode is going to become more and more redundant. I was surprised to still see Windows 10 not quite knowing what it wants to be.

I think the inclusion of the touch friendly tile modern apps in the start menu is brilliant. Therefore, they should just do away with tablet mode and forget about it lol.

    Anyway, thanks again

  10. That's really what they have done, they have increased the size of the interface so they are compatible with touch or mouse/keyboard

Tablet mode just makes everything full screen so it looks like you are using a tablet instead of a desktop

On my 8" tablet I have tablet mode on as it makes things a little easier, though I occasionally turn it off to do things
On my 15" Laptop I never use tablet mode, I find the desktop better

  11. They have in one respect, but in another I don't think they have. To create an entire subsection of an operating system, and a mode which is far less capable than its desktop counterpart, for virtually no other reason than to remove a 0.5cm task bar seems ridiculous. It adds unnecessary confusion which got them in so much trouble with Windows 8. If they insisted on "tablet mode" why not just make the screen scaling slightly bigger and hide the task bar. It shouldn't exit the desktop mode entirely creating two totally different environments that use the same apps lol.

  12. I am not sure whats MS's thinking is for tablet more or whether its going to improve

there have been lots of big discussions on the MS forums about how bad tablet mode is now

Hiding the taskbar was a big one many didn't like, but this is now an integral part of tablet mode, reminds me of another difference, if you open an app in desktop mode, you will notice the back arrow usually at the top, in tablet mode the back has been moved to the taskbar

for me I hope tablet mode has more to come, and what we see now is mainly just the desktop side of windows 10
