Windows 10: Are new models of Microsofts wireless keyboards more secure

Hi,


I'm using the "all-in-one media" keyboard. The mousejack vulnerability (https://www.bastille.net/research/vulnerabilities/mousejack/affected-devices) makes it possible to hack some wireless devices, including some from microsoft.


An update has been supplied for Windows that fixes the issue for keyboard-only devices: https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/3152550


However:

1. My keyboard comes with a touchpad, which might be still affected therefore ("Mouse devices sold as a keyboard and mouse Desktop package are not supported")

2. I'm using this keyboard on a Linux system and cannot install the security patch therefore


My questions are:

1. Do new Microsoft accessories have the vulnerability patched on a firmware level? If I bought a new keyboard of the same type, would the vulnerability be already patched and therefore secure on a Linux system?

2. Is there a way to update the Firmware on the dongle to patch the vulnerability, using a Windows computer, such that the device is secure on other operating systems as well?

Looking Windows10 driver for Microsoft Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1.0A, Model 1027

I looked up the site suggested website and was not able to find an upgrade for Microsoft wireless Comfort keyboard model #1027 and the wireless optical mouse 2.0 model #1008 for Windows 10 . Any other suggestions out there?

Need a new wireless keyboard - suggestions?

This is a for work - not gaming!

My work keyboard is a wireless logitech, lasted some 6 years and now has a case of sticking keys, so I need a new one. I really liked it, thought the key action isn't the greatest. It has been through millions of keystrokes.

I have a G5 gaming mouse (both work and home), I want to keep that.

So I'm looking for:

• Wireless and responsive
• (USB and PS2 capable)
• Assignable hot keys
• Dedicated volume and playback buttons
• Great feel (for lots of typing)
• Intergrated wrist-wrest
• Black (nice not to see gunk that builds up)
• Under $100

Anyone have any "passionate" suggestions? I plan to stop at staples to try some out. I am partial to Logitech.

 

Is there a difference bewteen Wireless Comfort Keyboard Model 1027 and 1045?

There might be some software differences in Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1045 when compared to Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1027 model. Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1045 may not be compatible with the current operating software.



Method 1: I suggest you to download the latest software for the Wireless Comfort Keyboard 1045 from the manufacturer’s website and check fit the issue is resolved.



Method 2: If the issue persist, run the keyboard in
compatibility mode by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.



Compatibility mode runs the program in the current version of Windows using the settings from previous version of Windows.

• Download the latest keyboard driver software from the manufacturer’s website.
• Right-click on the driver setup file and click on properties.
• Click on the compatibility tab check the box
  Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 10 operating system from the drop down menu. Proceed with the installation.
• Restart the computer once the installation is complete and check if the changes are effective.
