Windows 10: Are notification area icons actually shortcuts?

Are notification area icons actually shortcuts? I have a calendar in the notification area, and it always opens reduced, but I want it to open maximized. In a shortcut, I would know how to do this, but I have never been able to figure out how to do it in a notification area icon. Any tip?

Suggestion to have an option to change Notification Area icon this way too.
Suggestion to finally have proper separate Options window like most (all?) Windows programs do.

I have since found the solution wlsewhere:

To add a hidden icon to the notification area

• 
  Click the arrow next to the notification area, and then drag the icon you want to move to the notification area. You can drag as many hidden icons to the notification area as you want.
  

To
always show all icons on the taskbar

• 
  Right-click an empty area on the taskbar, and then click Properties.
  
• 
  Under Notification area, click Customize.
  
• 
  Select the Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar check box, and then click
  OK.
  

 

Desktop Shortcut Icons

Hi Mik-Dav,

The desktop shortcut created for a specific website should bear the website's actual logo. With what you've experienced, there could be something wrong with how the shortcut was created.

If you've created the shortcut by selecting Create shortcut, then we suggest that you try the other way, that is by dragging the website icon that appears in the address bar to your desktop. Follow these steps:

• Using Internet Explorer, access a website.
• Once the website opens, you will see its icon in the address bar.
• Click and drag the icon on your desktop.

The website shortcut bearing its actual logo should now be saved on your desktop.
