  1. Are these strange URLs being accessed by WIndows / Windows services legitimate?

While researching unrelated network problems, I put a TCP tracker in place and filtered out known good activity. I saw Windows components accessing URL's with odd and concerning URL names. I set blocks that resolved these URLs to 0.0.0.0 and looked for accesses to that blocked IP address. These URLS were "effortstation.co" and delightful-flower-9-digit hex-looking number".[single digit number].azurestaticapps.netI was surprised to see that at least 8 of my Windows services were accessing one or the other. Blocking those accesses caused other new failures in request by various WIndows serv

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

Windows XP Service Pack Three Details Revealed

Some details of Windows XP SP3 have been released, with the bulk of changes simply being a collection of hotfixes and patches – altogether there will be 1,073 patches and hotfixes in SP3 which were not included in previous service packs (114 addressing security issues, the rest being for performance and reliability). However, there are four completely new features included with SP3, mainly being backported from Vista:
    • New Windows Product Activation model: no need to enter product key during setup
    • Network Access Protection modules and policies have been brought to XP after being one of the more-well-received features in Windows Vista. You can read more about NAP here
    • New Microsoft Kernel Mode Cryptographic Module - the Windows XP SP3 kernel now includes an entire module that provides easy access to multiple cryptographic algorithms and is available for use in kernel-mode drivers and services.
    • New “Black Hole Router” detection - Windows XP SP3 can detect and protect against rogue routers that are discarding data
The new service pack will be compatible with all versions of Windows XP, including Embedded, Fundamentals, Start, Media Center, Home and Professional Editions.
