Windows 10: Arm64 iso tried to boot on x64! I used Hyper v on a lenovo v15 82c5 with 1366x768(literally...

When I tried to boot Windows 10 Iron build 20175 from https://archive.org/details/10.0.20...6-amd-64fre-client-server-multisku-retail-en- and my name there is Web Chive. I accidentally downloaded the arm64 version without looking. After that I wanted to upgrade from an older build(19041.1) to that build when i booted up the vm it said CDBOOT: Cannot find bootmgr but I decided to continue. After that i wanted to install it manually and do clean install so i decide to put the missing files from a 2004 iso I created recently using MediaCreationTool.bat from https://github.com/AveYo/MediaCreationTool.bat and after that it showed boot logo and said winload.exe contains errors i tried booting on uefi but said that DVD did not have any boot-able disks. Until i realized that it was arm64 I downloaded the correct iso for that build and later on tried the next 2 builds 20180, 20185 and I have a 20185 vm as of writing this post.

Other info of the system: Yes this laptop isn't high end and has a slow 1ghz cpu that can't run vmware which is unstably slow and virtualbox is slow and hyper v only is somewhat fast.)

Fail to use Hyper-v on arm64

Hi, I have tried to load Ubuntu/CentOS x86 ISO, by Win x86_64 hyper-v, both of them work well on Win x86_64.

But when I tried to load Ubuntu/CentOS arm64 ISO, by Win arm64 hyper-v, no one could be load correctly.

My arm64 system:





When I created new hyper-v virtual machine, Generation1 is disabled and only Generation2 could be selected.(While on x86 hyper-v, I could choose Generation1)





When I tried to load https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/focal/daily-live/current/focal-desktop-arm64.iso ,it always popped up this error dialog.





When I tried to load centOS arm64 ISO from CentOS Mirrors List ,it always popped up this error dialog.





1. Does hyper-v arm64 supports arm64 ISO now?

2. If yes, how can I fix these error and load arm64 ISO succesfully?

 

Hyper-V on win11/arm64

I have a Thinkpad x13s, ARM64 inside, 32 GiB, running win11. Hyper-V installed, WSL runs fine.

However, I have not been able to install ANY operating system in Hyper-V.

E.g., I downloaded the latest Ubuntu-22.04/server/ARM64, created a VM, and attached the ISO as a DVD. VM boots, I get the GRUB prompt, choose "install..." - then it hangs, saying:

EFI stub: ERROR: FIRMWARE BUG: kernel image not aligned on 64k boundary

Any ideas?

 

Windows 10 Insider build 20152 now available as ARM64 VHDX for Hyper-V

With Windows 10 on ARM Insider Preview builds, you can create 64-bit ARM (ARM64) VMs in Hyper-V on Windows 10 ARM-based PCs. Creating ARM64 VMs is not supported on x64 hardware.

Pre-requisites for creating ARM64 VMs:

• A Windows 10 ARM-based PC with a Microsoft SQ1, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx, or Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 processor
• Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise, build 19559 or newer
• Hyper-V enabled (instructions)
