Windows 10: Arrow keys functioning differently after update

I updated Windows 10 on my Lenovo laptop and now my arrow keys are acting differently. Before I could use them to scroll normally, and I would press Fn and the arrow keys in order to change brightness or the volume level. Now when I press the arrow keys up and down or left and right, it changes the brightness and volume level. And when I press Fn and an arrow key at the same time, that's what allows me to scroll. Like it's switched. I could get used to this if I have to but I would prefer to go back to the way it was.

Sticky keys being turned on or off seems to have absolutely no effect. It behaves the same both ways.

I tried to reset the keyboard by installing a new language and switching to it, then reinstalling English/US and switching back to it as primary. This did not help.

I also uninstalled the keyboard driver and restarted the computer. This had no effect.

I'm using the keyboard that came with the laptop. I pulled up the on-screen keyboard and the arrow keys functioned normally on it, allowing me to scroll.

down arrow key stopped working

My razor lycosa down arrow key decided to not respond at some point today. The other ones work and so does the numpad arrow if i turn off the numlock. Sounds like its just broken and im screwed, but any suggestions?

Since you are able to use the other shortcut keys, means that the keyboard works fine. This issue can occur if the
Arrow keys on the keyboard are faulty.

I suggest you to follow the methods below and check if it helps:

Method 1:

Try using the Arrow keys on other programs. Check if they are functional.

Most of the sytems have “Fn” key or a Function Lock key. This key can be used to
Enable and Disable the Arrow keys. Check if the
Arrow keys function after toggling the Fn key.

Method 2:

Try connecting a different keyboard to your computer. Try the shortcut keys once again. Check if they works.

If issue persists, try to check the system files are they working fine or not and to check that try to run
System File Checker (SFC) tool.



SFC scan will scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

• Press Windows key and
  X at the same time.
• Choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the context menu.

If issue persists try to create new user profile as an administrator and see if issue persists in new user profile. For creating new user profile you may refer to the steps provided in the article mentioned below.
