Discus and support Ask Toolbar gets the banhammer on Windows in Windows 10 News to solve the problem; I've never been able to get programs like Malawarebytes to work for me. It never gets everything out. I tend to just dig into the system and clean it... Discussion in 'Windows 10 News' started by Chuck38, Jun 11, 2015.

I just re-install the OS! Been doing it every day lately, sometimes twice a day!

Why don't you try a system refresh first. *Wink

Sometimes you have to find and kill the process, then turn the service off, then uninstall, then go to the registry and RIP that damn things backbone out, then go to App Data and cut it's legs off.. But make sure your offline first.

Toolbars need to be deprecated... Microsoft can deprecate desktop gadgets which most people seemed to like, you would think Toolbars would have been deprecated too.

I don't think I've ever heard of anyone in the last 15 years who has ever wanted or liked Toolbars *Confused

You have now! I liked Google Toolbar, mainly for its highlighter feature. I would still like to find something that did that.

Ummm the find feature(Ctrl+F)in Internet Explorer If you mean highlighting a word and sentences your looking for on a page..

By the way I used the Bing Toolbar on my Windows 7 machine for the Weather and Email warning feature, plus highlight and search feature(the other stuff I turned off). On Windows 8 and 10 I don't need it.

Toolbars were ok for their time, but tech marches on. The Notification feature in 8 and 10 are great especially in 10 taking it further. Hoping Cortana via Bing performs this: Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 Search Button in the non-mobile edition. e.g. In reading the posts here, lets say I want to brush up on what's new with the Google Toolbar. I simply highlight it...

Simply tap the Cortana search icon to search Bing for relevant results.

Yup Gipsie That's what I mean by I don't need the Bing toolbar on the newer OS's. Many many useful things are included and embedded(we just have to find them ourselves because Microsoft has gotten a bit lazy providing thorough documentation/Help).

Yes, I knew that's what you meant by stating you use it in 7. Used 7 extensively myself. A good, stable OS, but quite outdated now IMO.

Yes, many useful features added with every OS. Not sure that MS is getting lazy, though. The Help files just aren't embedded in the OS any longer. Plenty of help on their site. There's also Modern Store apps also. Here's one on my Lumia:

Thing is a lot of users simply choose not to use Modern Store apps.

On the other hand, I think MS left out one of the most useful features of 8.1 not included in 10 > Charms bar, save the hamburger menu. Not quite the same. *Sad Just one of the major deciding factors why I won't be using 10 as my main OS. So far, anyway.

Yeah I like the charms bar too. It's practical for even something so simple as seeing the time and date, because the one in system tray is so small, and I use my HDTV as a Display and sit about a meter away. And basic controls are larger(sound, internet access, power...etc.)

We seem to have a lot in common there, Cliff. *Thumbs

Yes, size matters, but everything one needs is right there no matter where one is at. No need to go to a Start menu or Start screen for anything. I think the Sharing is one of the best features on the list. Even on the phone.

MS changed the malware listing as of Saturday, June 13 as follows:

Ask Toolbar gets the banhammer on Windows [IMG]

Basically, it looks like Ask has changed its behavior so it no longer resists changing default search page and so forth, so MS no longer considers it malware. That said, it remains a huge PITA IMO so I still look at it as the Devil's handiwork!
