Windows 10: Asked 1K times: How to disable turn off password protected sharing

Two PCs, one Windows 10 Home and the second Windows 11 Home. I login to both using the same Microsoft account. The home network is sharing a single folder from each. The share permission allows "Everyone". I must be missing some other requirement to make this work.

Dear Microsoft

I have a basic question about the networking. I have two computer and i want to share the folder named "games" using the lan. I connect both computer (computer_1 and computer_2) in computer 1 i
shared this folder for everyone to read and write. But the problem is that in the computer_1
turn off the password protecting but it still requiring the password to access the folder "games". And also there is Microsoft password is not working.

Means turn off password protecting sharing is not work.

I want to access this folder in computer_2 without requiring any password for computer_1.

I used the following process also but it still requiring to enter in the computer_1.

• private (current profile)

• Turn on network discovery
• Turn on file and printing sharing

• Guest of Public

• Turn on network discovery
• Turn on file and printing sharing

• All Network

• Turn on sharing so anyone with the network access can read and write file in the public folder
• Turn off password protecting

 

Cannot turn off the password protected sharing. The option for password protected sharing is not there

Is this the exact process/steps you are using?

Open Control Panel

Go to Network and Sharing Center

Select Change advanced sharing settings in the left pane

Expand the network you want to disable password protected sharing on by clicking the down arrow on the right of the profile

Select 'Turn off password protected sharing' and then click Save changes.

 

Windows 10 Sharing - Clients ask for Password when password protected sharing turned off?

I would like to inform you that simply disabling password-protected sharing does not make a share accessible to everyone without prompting for a password.

To make a share accessible openly, you have to perform all the below operations -

• Turn off password protected sharing in Settings → Network → Sharing options → All networks
  
• Make sure that the file system permissions on the folder allow unrestricted access to it
  
  Right click the folder → Properties → Security tab → Advanced → Permissions tab → Make sure you grant at least Read permissions for the Everyone user account
  
  If the Everyone account doesn't exist, you can add it using the Add button.
  
  (You might also want to check the Replace all child objects permission entries with inheritable permission entries from this object option if you want to recursively allow access to all folders inside it without manually configuring the permissions of the children.)
  
  
  
  
• Provide permissions for the shared item to be accessible to all users
  
  • Right click the folder → Properties → Sharing tab → Advanced Sharing → Permissions → Make sure you grant at least Read permissions for the Everyone user account.
    
    If the Everyone account doesn't exist, you can add it using the Add... button.
    
    
    
    
  • You can also perform the above step by re-creating the shares using the net share command.
