    Asking for bitlocker key after switching on


    I have a Dell laptop which is about 4-5 MO this old and just got the motherboard changed, and after switching on, it is asking for bitlocker key. I have never set up a bitlocker recovery nor do I have a key. I logged into the Microsoft account to check and it said that my C and D drives are encrypted by bitlocker (don't know how), but I'm unable to find any key. I cannot just reset my D drive because it has a lot of data - C drive is ok. Please tell me what I should do.

    To enable BitLocker on your computer, you follow the steps below:

    • Sign in to your Windows account with an administrator access.
    • Press the Windows key.
    • Type and enter BitLocker.
    • Click Turn on BitLocker.
    • If the system is asking to sing in to administrator access, please do so.

    The troubleshooting links don't help. I just keep going around in circles. It says to do the following:

    • Your Microsoft account online. This option is only available on non-domain-joined PCs. To get your recovery key, go to BitLocker Recovery Keys.

    This information is absolutely NOT helpful as no information is provided. I cannot get anyone to answer my question and now my Surface is stuck in safemode as a result of being unable to recover the Bitlocker. It would have been useful to know when first
    getting this now useless piece of equipment as a gift that a Bitlocker key was going to be needed at some point in the future! All of this came about because of the wonderful power driver state failure which results in the inability to connect to the Internet
    and me trying to fix it. Now instead of being able to periodically use my Surface, I cannot use it at all!!!!
