  1. Asmedia USB 3.0 Drivers

    Hi,

I have an Asrock Z77 Extreme4-M motherboard and been looking around for an update for Asmedia drivers.
The problem is I read a post here about updating USB 3.0 asmedia driver via microsoft.
I have a disc that came with the MB that has Asmedia 104x host controller driver.
But there is no host USB 3.0 controller showing in device manager, does that mean I should install the microsoft one as well.
I,m a bit confused so any help here would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Kevin

  2. Help with BSOD death diagnosis (ran mdsched and verifier w/ results uploaded)

The file that failed was Asmedia USB 3.0 driver, not the hub one.

If you have a USB hub(multiple 3.0 ports), you should then install USB hub driver.

Constant BSOD after forced Windows 10 Creator Update

The Driver Verifier may have taken issue with the
    asmtxhci.sys
which is an Asmedia USB 3.0 driver.

The asmtxhci.sys appears to de dated Jun 3, 2015.

Look for an updated Asmedia USB 3.0 driver for Windows 10 that may be available from ASUS for the motherboard or uninstall the Asmedia USB 3.0 driver (via Apps and Features) and use Windows built-in USB 3.0 drivers.

You may also benefit from updating the Intel SATA driver (Intel RST driver) if one is available.

  4. Asmedia USB 3.0 Drivers

Windows 10 has native support for USB 3.0. Most USB 3.0 chipsets (including those built into the Intel chipset) are supported without a separate driver. Install your motherboard chipset driver.

  6. Hi,
I'm still confused with this, what I meant to say is that I've got a intel USB 3.0 EHC, but do I still need to install asmedia drivers that came with the MB. Because when I install these asmedia drivers the computer seems to freeze up and I just can't get any where. Still no USB 3.0 ports working. When I read a post earlier here I saw they had asmedia drivers for windows 10, so should I try those instead, I just don't know how to solve the issue. My drivers get installed into windows programs, but no asmedia driver in device manager. Talk about confussing.

    Thanks

  7. Do you have usb 3.0 expansion card connected to the motherboard slot if no then all you have to do is install chipset driver.

If you have a usb 3.0 expansion card connected to the motherboard slot then you might need to install driver supplied by the usb 3.0 expansion card manufacturer.

Download the ASMedia USB 3.0 driver from Microsoft Update Catalog link below.

  8. Hi,

Once again from what I've read and understood the two USB 3.0 ports at the back of the motherboard get there power through the pcie bus.
So are you telling me not install my original asmedia driver with MB. But update my Intel (R) ehc USB 3.0 to Asmedia usb 3.0 ehc in device manager and then my ports will work.

    Thanks

  9. Your motherboard has two different USB 3.0 controllers - the Intel controller and the ASMedia controller. They have separate drivers.

This is because back in the day the Intel controller only supported a small number of ports so OEMs added a secondary controller to get some extra ports.

I sold my ASRock Z77 board a few months back but I recall Windows 10 already having ASMedia drivers. Do you see any yellow bangs in Device Manager? What does it show under USB controllers?

    Hi,
Funny enough I had Asrock support telling me that my board does not have an asmedia chip, my board is Asrock Z77 Extreme 4-M, but I have a support cd which came with all mb drivers and sure enough the asmedia 104x drivers are on there. There is no yellow marks so everything looks ok. But only 1 hub showing USB 3.0 I have two usb 3.0 front and two on the back.

    Thanks

  11. Sorry, I missed that you had the Extreme4-M, not the Extreme4. According to the ASRock website the 4 has the ASMedia controller but the 4-M actually does not.

The CD that comes with the motherboard is most likely a generic one that contains drivers for all their boards.

So is the issue that your rear 3.0 ports don't work at all? Can you try plugging something in and running USB Device Tree Viewer to see what shows up?

    Hi,

Yes thats right, now I understand, but for some reason even thoughthey're pluged into usb 3.0 port they are reverting to usb 2.0
in treeview futher inspection they do not show super speed. They show high speed which I under stand is usb 2.0 and it even shows you that its usb 2 not usb 3

It shows you that your connected to a usb 3.0 port, but it is not working at super speed. I don't know what to think no matter what I do it just working at usb 2.0 speed.

    Thanks

  13. Yes, H indicates USB 2.0 speeds.

Did you confirm that USB 3.0 is enabled in your BIOS/UEFI settings?

Is your WiFi adapter plugged directly to your rear port (and not using an extension cord or anything)? Does this happen across all ports and devices?

What does it say in "Connection Information" when you click on the WiFi adapter?
