Windows 10: Assistive Technologies Upgrade Failed?

I just tried to upgrade on my Windows 7 Pro 32bit through the Windows 10 upgrade using the "assistive technologies" and it did not work for some reason. It failed after about 45min of downloading and starting the install. I've done this before with another computer and it worked fine. Got this Error Code, but nothing suggested on the net worked.Error Code 0xc1900208
I also read here that I could do a Clean Install and use my Windows 7 Pro Product Key and it would Activate it after the Clean Install, is this true? Lost the Link though.The laptop is also not updating. The updates were broken when I got it and have not fixed it because I was going to install Windows 7 Pro again, but in 64bit. But now I'm thinking it may be better to have Windows 10. I foget how far back the Updates stopped working, would this matter? Computer in question

I've just got all Updates current.

Another thing is, I still have that Update that says Windows 10 is not longer free, and I think this is the culprit...possibly....maybe? Meaning...I think Windows 10 was being offered to the computer when it was free, but the owner did not accept it, then that grace period passed and now it is being blocked. I'm hoping the Updates will fix this because I cannot find the Update. Anyone have any info on that?Any suggestions?Thanks,

These support reps just don't get it! So let me spell it out.

The Windows 10 Assistive Technologies upgrade does NOT give 2 options if you're low on disk space. It only gives the option to clean your drive and delete stuff. I have 2 Acer Switch 10 tablets. One (my wife's) I upgraded several months ago with no problem
because it allowed me to use a Micro SD card for extra space in doing the upgrade. My second Acer Switch 10 (mine) I'm trying to upgrade now from the Assistive Technologies Upgrade and it won't do it because I have only 12GB free space. That's after doing
a reset of its Windows 8.1, doing all the necessary updates and no programs installed. It says Windows 10 requires 16GB free and I only have 12GB free. There is nothing on it that can be deleted! The Windows 10 Assistive Technologies upgrade gives NO OPTION
to use an external drive like the regular upgrade.

Sooooo, how do you upgrade using The Windows 10 Assistive Technologies upgrade when it doesn't give you the option to use an external drive for the needed space? People like me who are half blind should not have to jump hoops to avail themselves of this
fine MS offer.

ok, if found out about those using assitive techologies could still install windows 10 free?

i use the magnifier features for my macular degeneration.

heres the problem - i have a limited disk table, asus t100, with 32gb, which really means i have about 7gb when its all said and done?!! sad, i know!

anyways, i poured thru google searches, etc and found a page about using usb drive for downloading build 14732, and ive done that?

so does anyone have any experience on how to upgrade my 8.1 table for free, under this assitive technology extension?

I would save all your current drivers (just in case) and clean install.

To save your current drivers, put in a USB and make a directory called "E:\Drivers" (or wherever)

Then export the whole lot using powershell Export-WindowsDriver

I'm not 100% sure Export-WindowsDriver works on Windows 7 - you may have to use the rather more long winded Dism /Online /Export-Driver /Destination:E\Drivers

Then clean install and install any that are missing - you can just say "look at E" for any missing ones.

 

Another thought, if I Upgrade this way (Assistive Tech) there will be no choice to get 64bit is there? Because I'm on 32bit Window 7 Pro now, and want 64bit. So may have to do it just to get the license?

My have to try that Clean Install path that lx07 and others have showed me? I'll read up on that now.

 

Your license has nothing to do with 32 or 64 bit. The license is for Home or Pro or Chinese or Korean or whatever.

You either have a license or you don't. If you have 8 Pro you can install 10 Pro (but not 10 Pro Korean).

If I was you I would back up all drivers to a USB (to be safe) and then upgrade using this:

Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First Installation Upgrade Tutorials

If you want to install 64 or 32 bit it doesn't matter - that will activate.

Only choosing Home, Pro, Chinese etc maters.

 

1. I understand that, just with the AT Upgrade path there is not choice.

2. Yes, I am going to follow your advice and do the Clean Install, otherwise I'll be stuck with a 32bit Windows 10 as far as I can guess with Assistive Tech pathway.

I really don't think you will.

I install 32 bit for VM's (Virtual Machines) as they are smaller. Either you have a license or not.

It is possible that your computer only works with 64 bit (I have an Apple laptop and they only made 64 bit drivers for Windows) but it is not a license question. I have to use 64 bit.

If you have a license for Windows Pro then you have a license for Windows Pro.

If you have a license for Windows Home then you have a license for Windows Home.

32 or 64 is not considered a difference for Microsoft.

That is all.

 

But why would Assistive Technologies change it from 32bit to 64bit that's not logical. It has 32bit now, I would think AT would just install the same bit type?

 

An upgrade has to be to the same bits as the current windows being upgraded, whether that's by Assistive Technologies, the Update Assistant or a manual upgrade with standard Win10 install media (all of which still get a digital licence, by the way - no need to use the AT route). There's a strong possibility that all free upgrades will end on 31 December, so get in quick

Once you have activated and got a digital licence you are free to do a clean install of 64 or 32 bit later - it just has to be the same edition as your licence (Home, Pro etc). You could even go back to your old Windows and install Windows 10 months (or years) later - the digital licence does not expire.

 

It doesn't. I've done this upgrade and it does not change 32 to 64.

In any case you can't upgrade from 32 to 64 as all the programs are different.

You are confused somewhere here I think.

Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, etc.)

2) Open the HP website > support and drivers > enter product or serial number > open drivers > post a URL or hyperlink into the thread.

3) Is the latest supported OS Windows XP?

I just did this on my personal computer, using a Disk, Fall Creators Update, 32bit. Now trying to do it on another Windows 7 Laptop, but cannot do it again? The guide provided does not talk about using the DVD Disk, but it worked for me for some reason the first time. Now will have to revert to a USB I guess, does anyone know why this doesn't work with a DVD on the second computer I'm trying it on?
