Windows 10: ASUS BSOD crash error code DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

I've been having issues recently with my ASUS laptop getting the BSOD on a regular basis when watching videos (specifically youtube) and recently when not watching anything at all, although this is the first time it has happened while not watching a video, or having a video running that I know of.

BSOD

Hello,

I've been having issues with my computer running Windows 10 Pro for a very long time crashing and giving me a BSOD with errors codes such as Memory_Management, DPC_Watchdog_Violation, KMODE_Exception_Not_Handled, and IRQL_Not_Less_or_Equal. I really need
to get this resolved as it makes it really hard to complete my coursework when I'm getting BSOD at the most inopportune times. If you need any additional data to diagnose the problem please let me know.

 

Bluescreen: Watchdog Violation

since a few days my system crashes randomly with the Code "DPC_Watchdog_Violation"

Spec: i7 6950x, 1080ti SLI, TB Card, Asus X99-E WS/USB3.1

The file size seems to be very small?!

Hi, I've followed the instructions again and have now attached a file detailing the crash logs.

I have also followed the instructions about rolling back the family controller driver, but because that has nothing to do with rwtlane.sys, surely it doesn't help, and it hasn't helped as I am still getting the crashes?

Please try it again as this has fixed quite a few ASUS laptops.

 

There were 19 bsod mini dump files debugged.
Every file when debugged displayed rtwlane.sys (Realtek Wireless LAN 8) as a misbehaving driver.
An additional misbehaving driver was mfewfpk.sys (McAfee Inc.)
In the windows error reporting another faulting application was igdkmd64.sys (Intel graphics)


In addition to the above posts:
1) open administrative command prompt and type of copy and paste these commands:
2) sfc /scannow
3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
4) chkdsk /scan

5) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

6) Using control panel uninstall all Mcaffee software

7) run the Mcafee uninstall tool:

Antivirus Software, Internet Security, Spyware and Malware Removal McAfee

8) turn on windows defender

9) open device manager > expand display adapters > identify Intel graphics > right click > properties > driver details > confirm igdkmd64.sys > ok > left click update driver

10) run one of the SMART tests on your drives:

I know this post is from a while ago, but I've finally managed to get the wireless driver to roll back to a 2016 version (not the Family Controller one which when rolled back didn't solve anything).

It has held up for a day now with no crashes, so I guess this just must be the only solution to the problem, thank you for your help.

There is major Windows upgrade this week.

In case you have any new BSOD let us know and we will troubleshoot them.

Windows by default will update non-Microsoft drivers.

If this driver is found to have been updated to the 2017 driver which produces BSOD again there is a method to turn off Windows update of non-Microsoft drivers.
