Windows 10: Asus EZ flash 2 doesn't see usb I can't continue the BIOS update

His issue was the file was on a NTFS disk not a Fat 32 disk ....

Did you try updating from windows the 1st time or with EZ-Update3 in the Bios ? (I always use the bios option)


In the bios look under USB or CSM (storage) and see if that it is set to Legacy , perhaps the bios can't see your USB stick in UEFI Mode?

Nope, not in Windows, I was trying to update from UEFI and as far as I remember was EZ update 2 now it's 3 (kind of updated); Unfortunately there is no other available option in order to change other parameters like Legacy for USB and so on.

It could be the fact that at first I've used the bios file .cap with the original name and according to manual could be necessarily to be renamed; I suppose. In the same time, in the dialog message the file should be with the same name as it was at the beginning of the update process.

 

in your 3rd pic did you click on the storage device or use the up down left right arrows to select it ? , try that if you didn't, fooled me the 1st time too , it seems to say fs:0 so it sees something.... I think

 

Yes I've tried to access the storage section where it should be the USB stick using the mouse and the keyboard arrows. It's inactive that's kind of strange. I also have tried to enter first to that section and after that to plug the USB stick (different cases formated as FAT/ FAT32 / with original filename/ renamed bios file). unfortunately no result.

Please let me try the DVD rescue and the battery "scam" and I'll come back with some news.
For the moment, thank you all for your time and interest, in trying to solve my issue.

Ok, here we go again. I've tried to use bupdater in DOS with FAT/ FAT32 formatted sticks using Rufus according to this (MBR partition UEFI/DOS, also creating bootable disk with FreeDOS), new downloaded BIOS files in different versions; After the file is checked, the next step is Loading updating module. The sequence is initialized and I receive "unknown result!".

The archives are not corrupted, I've tested the zip files and as I've said I've tried different BIOS version files.
Any thoughts ?

After that I'll apply the final solution removing the battery but I'm a little bit scared about using this. Thanks,

I've remove the battery, put that back in place and this is—I suppose—the end(?!)
In other words, I can't even go to the boot choosing device screen pressing F8, If I press F1 I receive the good old screen that telling me to continue the updating process, the DVD or the USB stick it's not working in recovery mode or something like this, at this point I'm pretty stuck. Any ideas?

May b, I've tried 1803 and earlier versions too H 170 Pro for sure. The problem now is that I can't go through the F1 phase. I am redirected to the " please continue the updating process" or black screen ;

 

Do you have an option to continue the " please continue the updating process"?

 

yes I have but using the internet (which is not the case because if I hit this option being unable to load the LAN drivers—I suppose—I am sent back to the F1 sequence) OR to use the USB, BUT in this screen the USB are not shown; I've tried 3 different sticks FAT 16/32 visible once in Boot choosing device section and able to run from these bupdater.exe / Free-dos.

By the way folks in your opinion this is out on warranty? I just read a line in the warranty certificate that makes me "smile" regarding the BIOS update procedure and the possibility to return the mobo.

 

Hi SB , strange , I did notice the /CSM on the Name but when I searched motherboards with the H170 Chip, Asus's Website only shows 3 H170 Boards and only one with Pro in the Name, the two websites look identical too. Maybe it is only showing current models when I search that way?

Also, knowing Asus, yes, they will want to charge you. But, other than the hassle, them replacing the BIOS chip is not expensive. I think they quoted me something like $30 once. I didn't do it. But....

 

do you have the RJ45 Lan cable plugged into the MB and Router ?

bupdater in your pic is from 2011 so I am wondering if it is too old/incompatible with the bios file?

Pic seems to indicate 1803 is half way done .... I have not seen that before

do you have anymore info on the exact MB model ? I can't find a H170 Pro , what is written on the board? is there a Revision No#

there is a H170L-Pro/CSM , a H170-Pro /CSM ,H170 Pro Gaming, etc SB maybe right , it may not be the correct Bios....

 

@Kbird this is the H170 Pro and I have the RJ45 Lan cable plugged into the MB of the laptop that I am using of course with different MAC address . First I should configure the LAN (in Windows) and talk to the provider to switch me to the Desk and after that to use the connection which is impossible. More than that, It wont work, just tried after the hard reset to access that section and I am sent back to the F1 sequence. Regarding the bupdater, that was the only version that I've find on other mobo's section. But i don't think that could be a problem being from 2011 because it's working in DOS.

The only thing left untested (I'll do that tomorrow I hope) is to find a small USB stick ~64-512MB format FAT 16/32 prepared and see what's happen.

 

The size of the USB stick won't matter.
