Windows 10: ATA PLDS DVD+/-RW DU-8A5LH is installed as a CD ROM, how to install as a DVD ROM?

I have uninstalled the driver.Updated firmware.Updated BIOSDone the registry things found in other posts, Can't even find the driver needed.Disk drive is built in to the laptop.

If it was my laptop, I'd remove the drive from Device Manager, and let the laptop re-detect it. I'm not hopeful about that, but it should do no harm.

 

PLDS DVD+-RW DU-8A5LH not recognized as writable on Win10 system (Device type DVD/CD-ROM).

Went to burn files to DVD on my new system only to find that it looks at my DVD-RW drive as Standard CD-ROM.

My first inclination is to simply uninstall the device and let Win10 reinstall, hopefully with the correct driver.

But then I thought I should check in here first.

Any suggestions?

Did you try to burn the files? Was there any error message?

D:\ is not accessible.

The parameter is incorrect.

Where is it stating it is a DVD/CDROM?

In Properties: Hardware

Have you installed the burning software or do you already have this?

Not relevant as I cannot even format disks for use.

Did you purchase the drive new & boxed or was it preowned?

New Dell computer. Actually replacement for the original purchase (complete machine).

It reads fine, but apparently this is the first time I've tried writing on this computer.

The warranty expired 26 days ago. Dell says they can fix it, for a fee.

I would rather do without than pay for a latent defect.

Yes there’s no harm in uninstalling the device & reinstalling.

Tried that twice.
