Windows 10: ATI Radeon HD 4200 driver for 64-bit Windows 10?

Windows update will install only driver, you need also ccc for controlling the driver, do it as I describe at post 13

 

Having the same issue - mine upgraded just fine to Win 10 Pro latest build - but then 2 days ago substituted the "Basic Display Driver" for the Radeon 4200. Radeon only showed up in "View Hidden Devices" in Device Mangler.

In trying to fix it, deleted the driver software for Radeon card so I could reload it from scratch - big mistake.

Just wanted to check on something though...when I go to get the legacy software - I don't see a 13.4, just a 14.4. Is that the one you mean? (see attachment)

UPDATE!!
Got it to work using the 13.9 driver package from AMD Previous Versions section of the website. It ALSO fixed the problem that I was suddenly having with the computer not being able to be put into Sleep or Hibernate modes y any usual means (the options had disappeared from every interface & right click options). Had to use the PhilGates method to force the driver install through the Device Manager - but it fixed it! Thanks everyone - this was driving me to distraction!

I installed the 13.4, i guess i got this last driver number 15.200.1046.2 (07/15/2015) then.

I have an HD4300 graphics card which has installed using windows drivers. I am using my 42inch tv as a monitor. Will loading the CCC as described still enable me to scale down windows recomended resolution so it fits the tv screen. Currently had to reduce resolution which leaves a black border.

 

If Catalyst Control Center can install properly and the installed driver works with it, you will still have scaling capability. I forced the video card driver that came with version 13.4 to install and the 13.4 Control Center has full functionality. I don't know if Control Center will have full functionality with the Windows installed driver - mine wouldn't.

You should give Display Driver Uninstaller a try.

To use it you must set Windows to boot into safe mode first (using the msconfig utility).

Then run DDU from safe mode -> Use the option to uninstall and restart.

Try installing the video driver afterwards.

At my situation I had bsod at shutdown with the 13.4 ati beta driver (2x4890 sapphire). The computer was impossible to shutdown, it was doing restart every time I was choosing shutdown and I discovered that was crashing at shutdown. With windows driver working ok no problem at all.

 

Thank you Phil! I followed your instructions and they gave me back full CCC functionality.
I updated from Win7 Home Premium.

The Device Manager protocol was a bit different re the actual items to select but still intuitive.

I also tried some of the other options posted here but without success. Regardless, everyone deserves credit for their
efforts and willingness to help.

Very surprising and disappointing that I didn't find any of this on the MS Win10 or AMD web sites. Maybe I missed it but I spent a lot of time on both sites. One post on one of those sites said, "With HD4200 only options are to buy a new PC or upgrade your graphics card". Glad I didn't give up and glad I found you folks.

Did the Phil Gates work around and the green video screen dissappeared and vids were playing in FB etc fine. BUT if I hibernate or switch off my laptop reverts to green screens on vids. I have a Radeon HD 4200 and cleared the newer CCC and downloaded the 13.4 legacy and followed all instructions. If I go to device manager and do the last part it will go back to normal vid and green screen disappears????

 

Another thing to try - on a video with the green screen, right click on it and disable (uncheck) hardware acceleration.

 

So what's the bottom-line situation for AMD Radeon 4000 and 3000 series cards on Windows 10? Will they work OK on Windows 10 with a basic driver from Windows Update?

 

I kept getting it to work after the mod and then finally went into Chrome settings and unchecked disable hardware acceleration box in advanced settings. All working fine now. Many thanks.

 

For the HD 4000 series, yes the Windows 10 in-box driver is fine (and presumably also for the other cards supported by the legacy driver). It's not really a "basic" driver either just to clear up some confusion I've seen elsewhere, it's a fully featured driver just minus the Catalyst Control Center. As others have already mentioned, you could install the older 13.4 beta legacy driver if you really need that, or use alternatives like ATI Tray Tools.

Windows 10 can actually be made to work with some very old cards, it's surprising how many misinformed posts I've read about Windows 10 hardware requirements. I have a laptop with a Geforce Go 6000 series card from 2004 that is working fine with a "proper" driver.
