Windows 10: ATI Radeon X1950 Graphics Drivers Corrupted Windows 10 Operating System

The following is about how to download and install legacy graphics drivers for the X1950 to work with Windows 10.


I've found a fix. Go to - https://www.amd.com/en/support - and select 'Graphics' from the first list. 'Legacy Graphics' from the second list. 'ATI Radeon X Series' from the third list and 'ATI Radeon X1XXX Series' from the fourth list.


Then hit the 'submit' button and you'll be re-directed to a selection of downloads. Select 'Windows Vista - 64-Bit Edition' and hit 'Download'.


Before installing, right click on the program file and select 'Properties' and then select 'Compatibility'. Then select 'Run as Windows Vista Service Pack 2'.


Click to run the program and click 'Install'. Soon a screen appears giving you the option to choose between 'Express' or 'Custom', choose 'Custom' and click 'Install'. Another screen appears, deselect 'Catalyst Control Centre' and click 'Install'.


When finished installing the screen resolution is adjusted but Windows 10 is corrupted. Test to see if it is corrupted by re starting the computer, then by going to the start menu and selecting 'Settings'. Choose any of the options, if the screens starts to flash and glitch out you will know you still have a problem and you will have to procced to the final stage of this process.


Nearly there.


Go to Control Panel and select 'Hardware and Sound' then select 'Device Manager'. Select 'Display Adapters' right click and select 'Properties', select the 'Driver' Tab and then select 'Roll Back Driver' click 'Ok'.


Restart your computer. Good luck. This process fixed the issue between AMD and Microsoft for me, I hope this has helped you also.

ATI Radeon 3000 Graphics Driver is not working properly.

Did you happen to try the workaround from the post I linked earlier?

The method suggested was as follows:

<in Control Panel>

open Device Manager, select Display adapters

Right click ATI Radeon (or generic graphics adapter if listed that way) and select Properties

Click "Update driver"

Click "browse"

Click "Let me pick from a list"

select (AMD or ATI) driver version 8.970.100.9001 from 2015 and install that

 

Windows 10 Upgrade: "Display Not Compatible" on X1950

I'm trying to upgrade to Windows 10 before the deadline but I'm getting the "display not compatible" error. I've searched these and other forums and it seems my old ATI Radeon X1950 GPU isn't compatible. I've checked ATI's website and sure enough there
isn't a Windows 8 or 10 driver listed.
Thing is, I've ordered parts to build a new PC but they won't all arrive in time - and even if they did I won't have time to put them all together before the deadline.
Is there any way I can use some sort of generic driver just to get the Windows 10 upgrade acknowledged by Microsoft? Or does anyone have any other suggestions aside from finding another stopgap graphics card?

 

Older Lenovo Laptops & Other ATI Radeon Graphics Adapters [SOLVED]


I had no problems upgrading my older Lenovo (IBM) T60 Laptop
However it replaced the video driver with the Microsoft Basic Display Driver.
The Laptop was functional however it would not play videos beyond the lowest definitions

AMD note with respect to Radeon Display Adapters:

However this is NOT true per your only options!

Go ahead & do the upgrade to Windows 10 - it WILL install the Micrsoft Basic Display Adapter.
Indeed there is no Windows 10 Driver - however there IS a Windows 7 Driver and it works just fine!

You need to get the driver from the Microsoft Update Catalog - note that you will have to use Internet Explorer and open/Run it as Administrator (will not work with other browsers, not even Edge)
Once you get the CAB, extract it to a folder (I used 7-zip);
then open the Device Manger and select the Display Adapter & "Update Driver"
Point the selection from 'Have Disk' to the unpacked CAB folder and include sub-folders, click 'next', then select the appropriate driver for your display adapter .
In my case it found x1300 (I had expected x1400) but installed that anyway and now graphics work perfectly, even for 1080 videos.

For me the driver installed from the unpacked CAB - if it does not work, try the following:

I did not need those additional steps - when I unpacked the CAB using 7-zip, the B_72690 folder was already present and I was able to load it directly without having to run in Safe Mode.

Also note that I did not install Catalyst - just the driver.
